How Dust Models Shape High-z Galaxy Morphology: Insights from the NewCluster Simulation

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Dust plays a pivotal role in shaping the observed morphology of galaxies. While traditional cosmological simulations often assume a fixed dust-to-gas or dust-to-metal (DTM) mass ratio to model dust effects, recent advancements have enabled on-the-fly ...

Effects of Halo Spin on the Formation and Evolution of Bars in Disk Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The spin of dark halos has been shown to significantly affect bar formation and evolution in disk galaxies. To understand the physical role of halo spin in bar formation, we run N -body simulations of isolated, Milky Way–sized galaxies by varying the ...

Merger History of Galaxies and Disk+Bulge Formation

open access: yes, 2009
We discuss the transitions of galaxy morphologies within the CDM paradigm under the assumption of bulge formation in mergers and disk growth via cooling of gas and subsequent star formation. Based on the relative importance of these two competing processes it is possible to make predictions on the expected morphological mix of galaxies.

Katachi (形): Decoding the Imprints of Past Star Formation on Present-day Morphology in Galaxies with Interpretable CNNs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The physical processes responsible for shaping how galaxies form and quench over time leave imprints on both the spatial (galaxy morphology) and temporal (star formation history; SFH) tracers that we use to study galaxies.

Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model for Realistic and Fast Generated Euclid-like Data for Weak Lensing Analysis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Understanding and mitigating measurement systematics in weak lensing (WL) analysis requires large data sets of realistic galaxies with diverse morphologies and colors. Missions like Euclid, the Nancy Roman Space Telescope, and Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s
