Incorporating Morphological Types into Semi-analytic Schemes for Galaxy Formation [PDF]
We test the hypothesis that elliptical galaxies are formed by violent mergers in a universe with hierarchical structure formation. Within the framework of a semi-analytic scheme for galaxy formation, we predict the distribution of morphological types with redshift and compare the colours of elliptical galaxies in different environments.

An analytical model for galaxy metallicity: What do metallicity relations tell us about star formation and outflow? [PDF]
We develop a simple analytical model that tracks galactic metallicities governed by star formation and feedback to gain insight from the observed galaxy stellar mass-metallicity relations over a large range of stellar masses and redshifts. The model reveals the following implications of star formation and feedback processes in galaxy formation.

On the Signature of Black Holes on the Quenched Stellar Mass Function
As star-forming galaxies approach or exceed a stellar mass of around 10 ^11 M _⊙ , they are increasingly likely to be quenched in a process generically called mass quenching.

The influences of the Magellanic Clouds on the Galaxy: Pole shift, warp, and star formation history
We investigate how the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) influences the evolution of the Galaxy after the LMC enters into the virial radius of the dark matter halo of the Galaxy for the first time.

A LAW FOR STAR FORMATION IN GALAXIES [PDF]
We study the galactic-scale triggering of star formation. We find that the largest mass-scale not stabilized by rotation, a well defined quantity in a rotating system and with clear dynamical meaning, strongly correlates with the star formation rate in a wide range of galaxies.

Abstract Provenance is the story of how something has come to be. In this paper, we provide a systematic literature review to categorize the various notions of provenance in Information Sciences. The goal of this review is to paint a broader picture of the multiple uses of provenance at play and to enhance our understanding of the importance of ...

We investigate the formation channels of the intracluster light (ICL) and the brightest cluster galaxy (BCG) in clusters at z = 0. For this, we perform multi-resolution cosmological N -body simulations using the “galaxy replacement technique.” We study ...

ABSTRACT Classification of galaxies, stars, and quasars using spectral data is fundamental to astronomy, but often relies heavily on redshift. This study evaluates the performance of 10 machine learning algorithms on SDSS data to classify these objects, with a particular focus on scenarios where redshift information is unavailable.

PAC. V. The Roles of Mass and Environment in the Quenching of Galaxies
The roles that mass and environment play in galaxy quenching are still under debate. Leveraging the Photometric objects Around Cosmic webs method, we analyze the excess surface distribution ${\bar{n}}_{2}{w}_{{\rm{p}}}({r}_{{\rm{p}}})$ of photometric ...
