Homochiral Self‐Sorting During Macrocycle Formation and their Chiroptical Properties

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Imine condensation of C2‐symmetric chiral aldehydes with aliphatic amines results in 2 : 2 macrocycles lacking self‐sorting, whereas aromatic amines yield macrocycles with complete homochiral self‐sorting. These macrocycles exhibit unique chiroptical properties attributed to rigidification compared to the starting aldehydes.

Buzzard to Cardinal: Improved Mock Catalogs for Large Galaxy Surveys

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the Cardinal mock galaxy catalogs, a new version of the Buzzard simulation that has been updated to support ongoing and future cosmological surveys, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES), DESI, and LSST.

A statistical study of the luminosity gap in galaxy groups

open access: yes, 2010
The luminosity gap between the two brightest members of galaxy groups and clusters is thought to offer a strong test for the models of galaxy formation and evolution.

Improving the Determination of Supernova Cosmological Redshifts by Using Galaxy Groups

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
At the low-redshift end ( z < 0.05) of the Hubble diagram with Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia), the contribution to Hubble residual scatter from peculiar velocities (PVs) is of similar size to that due to the limitations of the standardization of the SN Ia ...

NGC1600 - Cluster or Field Elliptical?

open access: yes, 2008
A study of the galaxy distribution in the field of the elliptical galaxy NGC1600 has been undertaken. Although this galaxy is often classified as a member of a loose group, all the neighbouring galaxies are much fainter and could be taken as satellites ...

Deciphering the role of epistemic injustice in school‐based citizen science: Sources, implications, and possible ways for mitigation

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
Abstract Participation in citizen science, a research approach in which nonscientists take part in performing research, is a growing practice in schools. A main premise in school‐based citizen science is that through their participation, students and teachers make meaningful contributions to the advancement of science.

A panoramic view of the Milky Way analogue NGC 891

open access: yes, 2010
Recent panoramic observations of the dominant spiral galaxies of the Local Group have revolutionized our view of how these galaxies assemble their mass. However, it remains completely unclear whether the properties of the outer regions of the Local Group
