Liver molecular networks associated with drinking behavior in nonhuman primates

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
We identified hepatic molecular networks that differed between light drinkers (LD) and very heavy drinkers (VHD) before they were exposed to alcohol, as well as epigenetic differences between LD and VHD in response to the same amount of alcohol.

A Hot Core in the Group-dominant Elliptical Galaxy NGC 777

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
NGC 777 provides an example of a phenomenon observed in some group-central ellipticals, in which the temperature profile shows a central peak, despite the short central cooling time of the intragroup medium.

Has Politics Become More Professional? Career and Legislative Professionalisation in the Australian Parliament Since 1950

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, EarlyView.
“Professional politicians” have been lamented for their perceived negative impact on representative democracy. However, the concept of “political professionalisation” is deployed inconsistently, making these claims difficult to assess. This article develops a framework to measure professionalisation across two dimensions: career professionalisation ...

Computers and chess masters: The role of AI in transforming elite human performance

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have made significant strides in recent years, often supplementing rather than replacing human performance. The extent of their assistance at the highest levels of human performance remains unclear. We analyse over 11.6 million decisions of elite chess players, a domain commonly used as a testbed for AI

Observational Evidence for Spin Alignment between Galaxy Groups and Their Central Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We present a systematic observational study of the spin alignment between galaxy groups and their central galaxies using a large spectroscopic sample from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

In silico, in vitro and ex vivo characterization of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator pathogenic variants localized in the fourth intracellular loop and their rescue by modulators

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Cystic fibrosis (CF) is due to loss‐of‐function variants of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channel. The most effective treatment for people with CF carrying the F508del mutation is the triple combination of elexacaftor–tezacaftor–ivacaftor (ETI).

CTCF Is Essential for the Development and Maintenance of CALM‐AF10‐Induced Leukemia

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
CTCF regulates TGM2 gene expression by modulating key histone modifications, including increased acetylation of H3K27 (H3K27ac) and trimethylation of H3K4 (H3K4me3), along with decreased trimethylation of H3K27 (H3K27me3). These epigenetic changes are critical for maintaining the stem‐like properties of CALM‐AF10‐induced AML. Pharmacological inhibition
