Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.

Gravitational lensing reveals cool gas within 10-20 kpc around a quiescent galaxy

open access: yesCommunications Physics
While quiescent galaxies have comparable amounts of cool gas in their outer circumgalactic medium (CGM) compared to star-forming galaxies, they have significantly less interstellar gas.

Interaction of Galaxies with the ICM

open access: yes, 2003
In recent years a wealth of data and detailed hydrodynamical simulations have appeared that show the effects of interactions between the ICM and galaxies. Single dish observations show that cluster galaxies are deficient in their HI content out to 2 Abell radii. The deficient galaxies tend to be on radial orbits.

Genomic Evidence for Dual Introductions, Limited Gene Flow and Niche Preferences in the Invasive Wasp Vespula germanica in South Africa

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions are major drivers of recent biodiversity changes, yet the genetic structure and ecological mechanisms underlying invasion dynamics remain poorly resolved in invasive social insects. In South Africa, the European wasp Vespula germanica (Hymenoptera: Vespidae), introduced in the 1970s, has spread remarkably more slowly than ...

The Leakage of Lyman-continuum Photons from a Major Merger at z ∼ 1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report the detection of Lyman-continuum (LyC) photons from a massive interacting system at z = 1.097 in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. The LyC detection is made in the far-ultraviolet F154W band of the UVIT telescope on board AstroSat.

Interacting and Merging Galaxies

open access: yes, 1996
I will present a review of some of the many recent developments within the exciting and rapidly evolving field of Interacting and Merging Galaxies. I will touch both on observations and on theory, focussing on those aspects where galaxy evolution modelling may possibly contribute to our understanding.

Automation and Augmentation in Theological Perspective

open access: yesModern Theology, EarlyView.
Abstract AI enables forms of automation that threaten unemployment and deskilling, eliminating important opportunities for the development of virtue. The concomitant loss of virtue and meaningful employment makes it a theological problem from the perspective of Catholic social teaching and theological anthropology.

FEAST: JWST/NIRCam View of the Resolved Stellar Populations of the Interacting Dwarf Galaxies NGC 4485 and NGC 4490

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present new JWST/NIRCam observations of the interacting dwarf galaxy system NGC 4485–NGC 4490 (aka Arp 269), obtained as part of the Cycle 1 Feedback in Emerging Extragalactic Star Clusters (FEAST) program. NGC 4485 and NGC 4490 form the closest known
