An ATP‐Mediated Antibiotic β‐Peptide Nanofiber That Kills Multidrug‐Resistant Bacteria via a Multistage Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The 3K‐AP system forms infinite supramolecular fibrils that undergo controlled degradation into shorter fragments upon enzymatic hydrolysis. Multitechnique imaging reveals a stepwise bacteriolytic mechanism involving bacterial entrapment, disassembly into lethal constructs, and associated extracellular vesicle release, highlighting the dynamic ...

Quantifying the Impact of Relativistic Precession on Tidal Disruption Event Light Curves

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The tidal field of a black hole can turn a star into a gas stream whose orbit can precess, especially if the a black hole is rapidly spinning. In this work, we investigate the impact of precession on the light curves of tidal disruption events (TDE).

Simulations of Precessing Jets and the Formation of X-shaped Radio Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Jet precession is sometimes invoked to explain asymmetries in radio galaxy (RG) jets and “X/S/Z-shaped” RGs, caused by the presence of a binary black hole companion to the source active galactic nucleus or by accretion instabilities.

The Jet-Cloud Interaction in 3CR Galaxies: Preliminary Results in Four Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2006
AbstractWe present preliminary results of the Gemini/GMOS longslit spectra for four radiogalaxies: 3C 135, 3C 180, 3C 234 and 3C 284. These objects are a subsample of a set of galaxies with noticeable extended structure selected from the HST/WFPC2 3CR Snapshot Survey, data taken with the filters F555W, F702W and narrow-ramp.

The Detection of Spatially Resolved Protostellar Outflows and Episodic Jets in the Outer Galaxy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the first detection of spatially resolved protostellar outflows and jets in the outer Galaxy. We observed five star-forming regions in the outer Galaxy (Sh 2-283 and NOMF05-16/19/23/63; galactocentric distance = 15.7–17.4 kpc) with the Atacama

Statistics of the projected angles between the black-hole spin and the host-galaxy rotation axes from NewHorizon

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Understanding the alignment between active galactic nucleus (AGN) jets and their host galaxies is crucial for interpreting AGN unification models, jet feedback processes, and the coevolution of galaxies and their central black holes (BHs). In this study,

Proper Motions of Jets on the Kiloparsec Scale: New Results with HST

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
The Hubble Space Telescope recently celebrated 25 years of operation. Some of the first images of extragalactic optical jets were taken by HST in the mid-1990s; with time baselines on the order of 20 years and state-of-the-art astrometry techniques, we ...

Mind and Cosmos as Throughput Systems: A Convergence Through the Throughput Model

open access: yesSystems Research and Behavioral Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper advances a conceptual and mathematical foundations approach by applying the throughput model (TPM) to cosmic phenomena, reframing the universe as an extended information processing system. TPM's four stages, Perception, Information, Judgement and Decision Choice, are reformulated in explicit information‐theoretic and dynamical ...
