Unification of Radio Galaxies and their Accretion Jet Properties [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astrophysics and Astronomy, 2011
We investigate the relation between black hole mass, M_bh, and jet power, Q_jet, for a sample of BL Lacs and radio quasars. We find that BL Lacs are separated from radio quasars by the FR I/II dividing line in M_bh-Q_jet plane, which strongly supports the unification scheme of FR I/BL Lac and FR II/radio quasar.

Rising jet-inflated bubbles in clusters of galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters, 2008
Abstract We conduct two-dimensional axisymmetric (referred to as 2.5D) hydrodynamical numerical simulations of bubble evolution in clusters of galaxies. We inflate bubbles using slow, massive jets with a wide opening angle, and follow their evolution as they rise through the intracluster medium.

Face‐on Dust Disks in Galaxies with Optical Jets

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2000
The presence of optical synchrotron jets in radio galaxies is relatively rare. Here, we show that of the nearest five FR-I 3CR radio galaxies showing optical jets, {\it four} show evidence for almost circular, presumably face-on, dust disks. This is strong support for the two-fold idea that (\romannumeral1) jets emerge close to perpendicular to inner ...

Silicon‐Embedded Multifunctional Heterogeneous Integration for Miniaturized Photoplethysmography Detection Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The multifunctional integration of chips with high flexibility and scalable manufacturing is crucial for enhancing chip performance, reducing chip size, and simplifying chip design. However, balancing volume, cost, flexibility, and functionality using traditional heterogeneous integration methods is challenging.

Superdiscs in radio galaxies: jet–wind interactions [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2007
Taking a clue from their sharp-edged (strip-like) morphology observed in several cases, a new mechanism is proposed for the formation of the emission gaps seen between the radio lobes of many powerful extragalactic double radio sources. Canonical understanding of the radio gaps invokes either blocking of the back-flowing lobe plasma by the denser ...

A Review of Failure Modes and Safety Strategies of Lithium‐Ion Batteries from Materials to Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A cascade‐aware framework is presented for lithium‐ion battery safety, linking thermal runaway initiation, acceleration, runaway reaction, and propagation with material‐, cell/pack‐, and system‐level interventions. By integrating failure mechanisms, quantitative safety indicators, and staged interception strategies, this review highlights how safer ...

The Jets in Radio Galaxies

open access: yes, 2020
This thesis describes two studies of extragalactic radio sources at high resolution and sensitivity. Most of the well-known facts about radio sources come from low-resolution imaging, despite the fact that much of the interesting physics (that of the jets and hotspots) occurs on scales that are small compared to the overall source size.

Jetted narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies breaking the jet paradigm: A comprehensive study of host-galaxy morphologies

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2022
Narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxies are unevolved active galactic nuclei (AGNs) that exist predominantly in spiral galaxies. However, mostly due to the small number of sources studied, it has been under debate whether also the hosts of jetted NLS1 galaxies, a particular subclass of these sources hosting a relativistic jet, are disk-like or elliptical,

Utopia Remembers: The Soviet Past in the Imagined Communist Future

open access: yesThe Russian Review, EarlyView.
Abstract After a twenty‐five‐year hiatus, the reappearance of utopian literature in 1957 prompted Soviet literary watchdogs to corral the subgenre into an ideologically‐acceptable mold. A key requirement was for future generations to be depicted as reverently commemorating the past.

Radio-Continuum Jets Around the Peculiar Galaxy Pair ESO 295-IG022 [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Astronomical Journal, 2010
We report new radio-continuum observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) of the region surrounding the peculiar galaxy pair ESO 295-IG022 at the centre of the poor cluster Abell S0102.
