Phoenix Dwarf Galaxy Stellar Kinematics
EAS Publications Series, 2011The Phoenix dwarf galaxy is the nearest and most typical representative of the class of the so-called transition dwarf galaxies (from spheroidal to irregular). We present here precise velocity measurements obtained from high-resolution spectroscopy of more than one hundred member stars, allowing us to study the stellar kinematics and estimate the ...

Kinematic asymmetry of galaxy pairs
Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2019AbstractThe interaction between galaxies is believed to be the main origin of the peculiarities of galaxies. It can disturb not only the morphology but also the kinematics of galaxies. These disturbed and asymmetric features are the indicators of galaxy interaction. We study the velocity field of ionized gas in galaxy pairs based on MaNGA survey. Using

The Dependence of Satellite Galaxy Kinematics on Galaxy Properties
Chinese Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2018Abstract The relations between the kinematics of satellites and the properties of hosts and satellites themselves are investigated in this paper. Our sample of hosts and satellites is selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data by adopting a self-adapted method developed by van den Bosch et al.

Galaxy kinematics and gravitation
1990Two galactic length-scale modifications of the Newtonian gravity law are examined in the light of observational dynamical properties of spiral galaxies: (1) the introduction of a Yukawa-type coupling for the gravitational potential, proposed by Sanders (1986); and (2) the introduction of a 1/R correction to the Newtonian gravitational force, proposed ...

Kinematic lopsidedness in spiral galaxies
1999Morphological asymmetries between the approaching and receding sides in both the stellar and neutral hydrogen distribution are often observed in spiral galaxies. Here, attention is drawn to the presence of large-scale asymmetries in the kinematics of the neutral hydrogen gas. An example of such a kinematically lopsided galaxy is presented and discussed.

Kinematical decouplings in spiral galaxies
2001Like fossils, multiple stellar and gaseous components with a misaligned or even opposite angular momentum with respect to that of their host conserve memory of processes driving galaxy formation and evolution. In disk galaxies, apart few cases like polar rings, they usually lurk to morphological inspection, they are serendipitously discovered by ...
