Interacting galaxies and mergers
Two landmark papers in the 1970s contributed strongly to establishing the importance of galaxy interactions and mergers in the formation and evolution of galaxies, using only gravity, and the ensuing dynamical friction.

Galaxy mergers in a fractal cosmology
This work discusses the influence of galaxy mergers in the evolution of a parabolic Lemaître–Tolman–Bondi (LTB) cosmology with simultaneous big bang endowed with two consecutive single fractal galaxy distributions systems possessing fractal dimension D ...

Starbursts in multiple galaxy mergers [PDF]
We numerically investigate stellar and gaseous dynamical evolution of mergers between five identical late-type disk galaxies with the special emphasis on star formation history and chemical evolution of multiple galaxy mergers.

Deep Learning for Galaxy Mergers in the Galaxy Main Sequence [PDF]
Starburst galaxies are often found to be the result of galaxy mergers. As a result, galaxy mergers are often believed to lie above the galaxy main sequence: the tight correlation between stellar mass and star formation rate.

A Yin-yang Galaxy Cluster Merger in A1914 Revealed by XRISM
Hierarchical mergers of galaxy clusters play a key role in converting gravitational energy into thermal and kinetic energy in the local Universe.

The Merger Rate of Massive Galaxies [PDF]
We calculate the projected two point correlation function for samples of luminous and massive galaxies in the COMBO-17 photometric redshift survey, focusing particularly on the amplitude of the correlation function at small projected radii and exploring the constraints such measurements can place on the galaxy merger rate.

The Chandra view of galaxy mergers [PDF]
From a Chandra survey of nine interacting galaxy systems the evolution of X-ray emission during the merger process has been investigated. It is found that the X-ray luminosity peaks ~300 Myr before nuclear coalescence, and then dips, even though we know that rapid and increasing activity is still taking place at this time.

Impact of galaxy mergers on the colours of cluster galaxies [PDF]
ABSTRACT We examine the ultraviolet and optical colours of 906 cluster galaxies from the KASI-Yonsei Deep Imaging Survey of Clusters (KYDISC). The sample has been divided into two categories, morphologically disturbed and undisturbed galaxies, based on the visual signatures related to recent mergers. We find that galaxies with signatures

On the dependence of galaxy morphologies on galaxy mergers [PDF]
The distribution of galaxy morphological types is a key test for models of galaxy formation and evolution, providing strong constraints on the relative contribution of different physical processes responsible for the growth of the spheroidal components.
