Megamasers in Nuclei of Galaxies
1986Powerful maser emission has been detected in a small number of galaxies. Most of these have Seyfert or starburst nuclei and exhibit other signs of galactic activity. Broad OH emission has been seen in the prototype megamaser IC 4553 (= Arp 220) (Baan, Wood, and Haschick 1982; Baan and Haschick 1984; Norris et al. 1985), NGC 3690 and Mrk 231 (Baan 1985).

Studies of galaxies with peculiar nuclei
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1975Photometric, morphological and spectral grounds suggest that the peculiar nuclei regions of NGC 1097, 1672, 2997, 5236, and 7552 are composed basically of a normal nucleus surrounded by several large but otherwise normal (Te∼8000 K,Ne∼1000/cm3) H II regions.
