Spectropolarimetry of the borderline Seyfert 1 galaxy ESO 323-G077 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report the detection of high linear polarization in the bright Seyfert 1 galaxy ESO 323-G077. Based on optical spectropolarimetry with FORS1 at the VLT we find a continuum polarization which ranges from 2.2 % at 8300A to 7.5 % at 3600A.

Ruling out Conventional Photoionization Models in the Closest LINER, M31, with CFHT/SITELLE Observations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The ionization mechanisms of low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions (LINERs), which are common in the local Universe, have been debated for decades.

Off-center nuclei in galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The nucleus of a galaxy orbits around the mass centroid. Orbital motions appear overstable in numerical experiments started with a galaxy's nucleus at rest atop its mass centroid. The amplitude doubles in 6-10 orbital periods. Orbits precess, nutate, and change their amplitudes, but they keep fairly constant periods.

The New Double Nuclei Markarian Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1989
In the course of morphological survey of Markarian galaxies on 2.6 m telescope of the Byurakan Observatory four new double nuclei objects were discovered. The results of morphological investigation of these galaxies are given and some parameters of the objects and their nuclei are estimated.

Starbursting Nuclei in Old Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2020
Abstract Nuclei of early-type dwarf galaxies (dEs) are usually younger than the galaxy main body, and this discrepancy in age has been a puzzle. To explore the origin of young nuclei in dEs, we study a sample of dEs having compact star-forming blobs that are visually similar to dEs’ nuclei but by far bluer.

Repeating Nuclear Transients From Repeating Partial Tidal Disruption Events

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extragalactic nuclear transients that exhibit repeating outbursts can be modeled as the repeated dynamical interaction between bound stars and supermassive black holes (SMBHs). A subset of these transients, with recurrence timescales of months‐to‐years, have been explained as accretion flares from the repeated tidal stripping of a star by an ...

Cosmic Ray Production of $^6$Li by Structure Formation Shocks in the Early Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We discuss the production of the element $^6$Li in the early Galaxy by cosmic rays accelerated at structure formation shocks, driven by the hierarchical merging of sub-Galactic halos during Galaxy formation.

Chlorinated Paracyclophanes: Composition Analysis and Direct Metal‐Free Alkylation with n‐BuLi

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A transition‐metal‐free alkylation of pseudo‐para dichloro[2.2]paracyclophane (Cl2‐PCP) is reported, utilizing the purified pseudo‐para isomer and n‐butyllithium (BuLi). Optimization with the chelating agent TMEDA and refluxing n‐heptane significantly boosted selectivity and reaction rate, providing the dialkylated product in 22% isolated yield.

Stellar populations of seven early-type dwarf galaxies and their nuclei

open access: yes, 2009
Dwarf galaxies are the numerically dominating population in the dense regions of the universe. Although they seem to be simple systems at first view, the stellar populations of dwarf elliptical galaxies (dEs) might be fairly complex. Nucleated dEs are of

Akkermansia muciniphila enhances chicken resistance to infectious bronchitis virus by boosting GABA synthesis and suppressing the NF‐κB inflammatory pathway

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) represents a major threat to poultry production, with current control strategies offering limited protection. In this study, we demonstrate gut microbiome is a critical determinant of IBV resistance using fecal microbiota transplantation.
