Surface photometry of galaxies

Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1988
Surface photometry of galaxies has undergone a great advance recently with the development of fast digital plate-measuring machines, powerful computers to process the huge amount of data from them, and efficient image-processing software. Further, the recent advent of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) has made the technique effective even with relatively ...

CCD photometry of seyfert galaxies

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1989
Morphology and elliptically averaged luminosity profiles have been derived from CCD surface photometry of thirteen seyfert galaxies. ApparentV andI magnitudes,V-I colour index, as well as absolute Mv and MI magnitudes have been calculatedV andI luminosity profiles of Mk 10, Mk 79, Mk 358, Mk 618, Mk 352, and Mk 110, are adjusted by the usual model ...

Strömgren Photometry of Galaxies

1984
In preparation for a program of observations of different types of galaxies in distant clusters, we have calculated synthetic colors from the spectrophotometry of radio galaxies published by Yee and Oke (1978). The monochromatic magnitudes were calculated for the Stromgren v, b and y bandpasses shifted into the rest frame of each galaxy.

Galaxy Photometry in the Virgo Cluster. I.

Astronomische Nachrichten, 1982
AbstractIn a field of about 0.6 square degrees near the centre of the Virgo cluster of galaxies a photometry in B, V, and R has been performed by means of the microphotometer of the Zentralinstitut für Astrophysik. For 84 galaxies identified in this field magnitudes, diameters, and axis ratios has been determined.

Deep photometry of spiral galaxies

Publications of the Pulkovo Observatory, 2022
In this study, we consider the potential of using deep photometry for exploring the structure of spiral galaxies. As a source of deep photometry, the modern DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys is chosen, with a wide coverage of the Northern hemisphere. Several examples of spiral galaxies with various structural features of low surface brightnesses are ...

Photometry of groups of galaxies. I

Astronomische Nachrichten, 1985
AbstractPhotometric data (magnitudes, radii, profiles) for galaxies in the field of 7 nearby groups of galaxies are measured by photographic surface photometry. Most of them are dwarf galaxies.

Photometry of Disks in Galaxies

1989
In this review, four aspects of the light distribution in galactic disks are addressed: (1) Following the pioneering work by de Vaucouleurs in the 1950’s, we know that the majority of disks have a radial surface brightness distribution that follows an exponential law.

Photometry of galaxies in compact groups

Astrophysics, 1988
The results are given of photographic photometry of galaxies in compact groups. The luminosity function of the galaxies in the investigated groups is similar to the luminosity function of field galaxies, open groups, and clusters. Of 54 groups, signs of merging of galaxies are observed in only one group.

Photometry of Galaxies with a Spectracon

1976
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses photometry studies of galaxies with a Spectracon. It describes an attempt to evaluate the use of electronography for the surface photometry of galaxies. The optical properties of radio galaxies are superficially indistinguishable from those of radio-quiet elliptical galaxies.

The Oort Limit and Galaxy Photometry

2019
The Oort limit and galaxy photometry A study of the spatial distribution of stars perpendicular to the Galactic plane in 1932 of stars and their velocities resulted in an estimate of the local density. Oorti¯s wish to study the dynamics of external galaxies resulted in a few months stay of the Oorts at Perkins Observatory in Delaware, Ohio.
