Integral-Field Spectroscopy of High-Redshift Galaxies: Implications for Early Galaxy Evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Several lines of evidence suggest that the most active phase of galaxy evolution, especially in the most massive systems, was largely completed by $z\sim 1$. This results, e.g., from the observation that the most massive galaxies at low redshift have very old stellar populations ($\sim 10$ Gyr) and very little gas to fuel subsequent star formation ...

Spectroscopy of a Distant Galaxy

2022
Using the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) in Arizona, an optical spectrum of a distant and faint galaxy is produced. The instrument MODS is applied in observations, and as the name LBT gives, two separate telescopes that work together have their own MODS installed and named MODS1 and MODS2. With the 6x6 arcminute field of view, the instrument allows to

ISO spectroscopy of galaxies

Advances in Space Research, 2002
Abstract Mid- and far-infrared spectroscopy of galaxies has become possible for sizeable samples with the advent of the Infrared Space Observatory ISO. This paper discusses diagnostics based on emission lines and the mid-infrared emission and absorption features, and their application to starburst galaxies, AGN, and ultra-luminous infrared galaxies ...

Integralfield spectroscopy of galaxies

2011
This work aims to give a closer look into the properties of the Seyfert galaxy UGC 1935 which is in interaction with LEDA 212995, as well as Mrk 607 which is part of a galaxy group. Kinematic studies using absorption lines (e.g. Rupke et al., 2005) show large scale gas flows in interacting galaxies.
