The Stability of Some Galaxy Disks is Still Perplexing

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The problem of how some disk galaxies avoid forming bars remains unsolved. Many galaxy models having reasonable properties continue to manifest vigorous instabilities that rapidly form strong bars and no widely accepted idea has yet been advanced to ...

A review of elliptical and disc galaxy structure, and modern scaling laws [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A century ago, in 1911 and 1913, Plummer and then Reynolds introduced their models to describe the radial distribution of stars in `nebulae'. This article reviews the progress since then, providing both an historical perspective and a contemporary review

Chaotic Spiral Galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
We study the role of asymptotic curves in supporting the spiral structure of a N-body model simulating a barred spiral galaxy. Chaotic orbits with initial conditions on the unstable asymptotic curves of the main unstable periodic orbits follow the shape ...

Robocasting of a Water‐Based Biopolymer/WO3 Nanopowder Paste as a Precursor to Tungsten Carbide Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel, additive manufacturing approach to produce complex, porous tungsten carbide structures using water‐based direct ink writing/robocasting. Leveraging a modified commercial printer and heat treatment, the process yields lightweight, electrically conductive 3D architectures capable of supporting a mechanical load.

New insights into galaxy structure from galphat– I. Motivation, methodology and benchmarks for Sérsic models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce a new galaxy image decomposition tool, galphat (GALaxy PHotometric ATtributes), which is a front-end application of the Bayesian Inference Engine (bie), a parallel Markov chain Monte Carlo package, to provide full posterior probability ...

Galaxy Formation Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We review the current theory of how galaxies form within the cosmological framework provided by the cold dark matter paradigm for structure formation. Beginning with the pre-galactic evolution of baryonic material we describe the analytical and numerical

Unlocking the Power of Quercetin‐Encapsulated Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Multifunctional Approach to Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are investigated for bone regeneration given their remarkable structural and functional properties. MBGNs are functionalized with Mn and Cu and incorporated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid exhibiting antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

The Effect of Environment on the Properties of the Most Massive Galaxies at 0.5 < z < 2.5 in the COSMOS-DASH Field

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
How the environment influences the most massive galaxies is still unclear. To explore the effects of the environment on morphology and star formation in the most massive galaxies at high redshift, we select galaxies with stellar mass $\mathrm{log}({M}_ ...

Crawling the Cosmic Network: Exploring the Morphology of Structure in the Galaxy Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Although coherent large-scale structures such as filaments and walls are apparent to the eye in galaxy redshift surveys, they have so far proven difficult to characterize with computer algorithms. This paper presents a procedure that uses the eigenvalues

Roll‐To‐Roll Production of Smart Dressings for Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a roll‐to‐roll manufactured smart wound dressing capable of visually monitoring key wound biomarkers, including pH, humidity, and temperature. By integrating colorimetric sensors into flexible dressing substrates, the device offers real‐time, equipment‐free insights for infection detection and wound management, representing a ...
