Information of Structures in Galaxy Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2006
We introduce an information-theoretic measure, the Renyi information, to describe the galaxy distribution in space. We discuss properties of the information measure, and demonstrate its relationship with the probability distribution function and multifractal descriptions.

The M 101 group complex: new dwarf galaxy candidates and spatial structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Context. The fine details of the large-scale structure in the local Universe provide important empirical benchmarks for testing cosmological models of structure formation. Dwarf galaxies are key object for such studies. Aims.

UNCOVER: The Rest-ultraviolet to Near-infrared Multiwavelength Structures and Dust Distributions of Submillimeter-detected Galaxies in A2744

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
With the wavelength coverage, sensitivity, and high spatial resolution of JWST, it is now possible to peer through the dust attenuation to probe the rest-frame near-infrared (NIR) and stellar structures of extremely dusty galaxies at cosmic noon ( z  ∼ 1−

Automated Quantitative Description of Spiral Galaxy Arm-Segment Structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We describe a system for the automatic quantification of structure in spiral galaxies. This enables translation of sky survey images into data needed to help address fundamental astrophysical questions such as the origin of spiral structure---a ...

The 3-Dimensional Structure of NGC 891 and M51

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the three-dimensional structure of the nearby edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 891 using 3D Monte Carlo radiative transfer models, with realistic spiral structure and fractally clumped dust.

α‐Helix‐Driven Regulation of Aqueous Circularly Polarized Luminescence in Homopolypeptide Self‐Assembly

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
We explore the hierarchical chirality transfer in self‐assembled fluorescent homopolypeptide systems for achieving aqueous circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), and reveal the α‐helix‐dominated CPL regulation mechanism during the self‐assembly process .

Mock Observations: Morphological Analysis of Galaxies in TNG100 Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
In this study, we investigate the morphology of galaxies in the TNG100 simulation by applying mock observation techniques and compare the results with the observational data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).

Some effects of galaxy structure and dynamics on the Fundamental Plane – II. A Virgo–Fornax distance modulus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The influence of broken structural homology, and the implied broken dynamical homology, is examined for the Fundamental Plane (FP). Requiring a symmetrical treatment of the FP variables, a bisector method of linear regression was applied, in 3-dimensions,

Artificial Intelligences: A Bridge Toward Diverse Intelligence and Humanity's Future

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Many discussions of artificial intelligence fail to address deeper questions being raised by advances in developmental biology, neuroscience, bioengineering, and philosophy of mind. Novel beings, including technologically and biologically augmented humans, engineered life forms, hybrots, and others, require tools of the emerging field of diverse ...
