Catalog of Visually Classified Galaxies in the Local ($z\sim0.01$) Universe [PDF]
The morphological types of 5840 galaxies were classified by a visual inspection of color images using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 (DR7) to produce a morphology catalog of a representative sample of local galaxies with $z<0.01$. The sample galaxies are almost complete for galaxies brighter than $r_{pet}=17.77$.

MRC B0319-454: Probing the large-scale structure with a giant radio galaxy
We present an investigation of the relationships between the radio properties of a giant radio galaxy MRC B0319-454 and the surrounding galaxy distribution with the aim of examining the influence of intergalactic gas and gravity associated with the large-

Galaxy protocluster candidates around z ~ 2.4 radio galaxies [PDF]
We study the environments of 6 radio galaxies at 2.2 < z < 2.6 using wide-field near-infrared images. We use colour cuts to identify galaxies in this redshift range, and find that three of the radio galaxies are surrounded by significant surface overdensities of such galaxies. The excess galaxies that comprise these overdensities are strongly clustered,

The local environment of flat galaxies [PDF]
The existence of flat or bulgeless galaxies poses a challenge to the hierarchical structure formation scenario advocated by modern cosmology. We determine the geometrical environment of a sample of $315$ flat galaxies from the Revised Flat Galaxy Catalog (RFGC) using `local dimension' $D$, which, on a given length scale, quantifies the dimension of the

UGC 7388: a galaxy with two tidal loops
We present the results of spectroscopic and morphological studies of the galaxy UGC7388 with the 8.1-m Gemini North telescope. Judging by its observed characteristics, UGC7388 is a giant late-type spiral galaxy seen almost edge-on.

Mimicking Symmetry‐Breaking Einstein Ring by Optical Lens
This article uses an optical lens to emulate the gravitational lensing effect and observe the Einstein ring (ER) patterns. The symmetry‐breaking ER, i.e., Einstein cross, is observed utilizing a rotation‐symmetry‐breaking hemi‐ellipsoid lens. Deformed Einstein cross patterns induced by noncollinearly alignment of the light source–lens–observer are ...

Oort Constants and Local Stellar Kinematics from GCNS
Oort constants and local kinematics are vital parameters with which to study the structure and dynamics of the Milky Way. When GCNS was published, it provided a clean sample of stars in the solar vicinity, which gives us an ideal tool with which to ...

Recent galaxy mergers and residual star formation of red sequence galaxies in galaxy clusters [PDF]
This study explored the GALEX ultraviolet (UV) properties of optical red sequence galaxies in 4 rich Abell clusters at z \leq 0.1. In particular, we tried to find a hint of merger-induced recent star formation (RSF) in red sequence galaxies. Using the NUV - r' colors of the galaxies, RSF fractions were derived based on various criteria for post-merger ...

Structural Parameters of Dwarf Galaxies in the Coma Cluster: On the Origin of dS0 Galaxies [PDF]
In this paper we analyze the structural parameters of the dwarf galaxies in the Coma cluster with $-18 \le M_{B} \le -16$ and classify them in two types: those with surface brightness profiles well fitted by a single Sersic law were called dwarf ellipticals (dEs), and those fitted with Sersic-plus-exponential profiles were classified as dwarf ...
