Deep Neutral Hydrogen Observations of the Early-type Galaxy NGC 2768: Collided by a Newly Discovered Satellite Galaxy?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the results of a deep neutral hydrogen (H i ) observation of the early-type galaxy NGC 2768 using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST).

Multiwavelength Observations of the Second Largest Known FR II Radio Galaxy, NVSS 2146+82 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present multi-frequency VLA, multicolor CCD imaging, optical spectroscopy, and ROSAT HRI observations of the giant FR II radio galaxy NVSS 2146+82. This galaxy, which was discovered by the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS), has an angular extent of nearly 20'

On a mechanism that structures galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1979
By considering the interaction of a single stellar orbit with a weak cos 2Φ potential it is shown that in the central regions of galaxies with slowly rising rotation curves, the elongations of the orbits will align along any potential valley and oscillate about it. This effect is more pronounced for elongated orbits.

Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA): variation in galaxy structure across the green valley [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2018
Using a sample of 472 local Universe (z < 0.06) galaxies in the stellar mass range 10.25 < logM*/M⊙ < 10.75, we explore the variation in galaxy structure as a function of morphology and galaxy colour. Our sample of galaxies is subdivided into red, green, and blue colour groups and into elliptical and non-elliptical (disk-type) morphologies ...

Machine Learning‐Augmented Loop‐Mediated Isothermal Amplification‐Enabled Point‐of‐Care for Mpox‐Specific Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A low‐cost, portable point‐of‐care platform for rapid Mpox detection using loop‐mediated isothermal amplification is reported. The device integrates fluorescence readout and mobile monitoring. A machine‐learning model analyzes temperature data and correlates thermal changes with DNA concentration, enabling sensitive and reliable molecular diagnosis in ...

UVCANDELS: The Role of Dust on the Stellar Mass–Size Relation of Disk Galaxies at 0.5 ≤ z ≤ 3.0

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We use the Ultraviolet Imaging of the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey fields (UVCANDELS) to measure half-light radii in the rest-frame far-UV for ∼16,000 disk-like galaxies over 0.5 ≤ z ≤ 3. We compare these results to rest-

The Effect of Environment on the Properties of the Most Massive Galaxies at 0.5 < z < 2.5 in the COSMOS-DASH Field

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
How the environment influences the most massive galaxies is still unclear. To explore the effects of the environment on morphology and star formation in the most massive galaxies at high redshift, we select galaxies with stellar mass $\mathrm{log}({M}_ ...

PKS2250-41: a case study for triggering

open access: yes, 2008
We present the results of a multiwavelength study of the z = 0.31 radio source PKS2250-41. Integral field unit and long-slit spectroscopy obtained using VIMOS and FORS1 on the VLT, and archival HST optical imaging observations are used to study the ...

Structure of the Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1964
The title which the organizers of the Symposium have suggested for this introductory report covers an enormous domain. Even if one limits oneself, as I intend to do, to the large-scale structure, it is impossible to summarize this adequately in one communication.

The THESEUS Space Mission and the Infrared Telescope Calibration Unit

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Transient High‐Energy Sky and Early Universe Surveyor (THESEUS) is an ESA M7 mission concept currently in Phase A, designed to exploit gamma‐ray bursts to probe the early Universe while advancing multi‐messenger and time‐domain astrophysics. To achieve its ambitious goals, THESEUS will combine wide‐band x‐ray and gamma‐ray monitors with an
