The role of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) in the flotation separation of chalcopyrite and galena has been investigated and the reason why H2O2 can enhance the depression effect of HEC has been explained.

The photoelectrochemistry of galena
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 1994Abstract The photoresponse of galena to chopped illumination has been studied to elucidate the surface oxidation of this mineral relevant to flotation. The results substantiated previous findings that sulfur remains in the mineral lattice during the initial stages of oxidation.

Galena (PbS) is an important and abundant source of lead (Pb) metal. It often coexists with other sulphide minerals such as sphalerite (ZnS). Flotation has been extensively used to separate galena and sphalerite.

Bismuthoan galena—A new variety of galena
Chinese Journal of Geochemistry, 1990Bismuthoan galena is a variety of galena, resulting from the replacement of Bi for some Pb in galena. This mineral occurs in the No. 11 orebody of the Lamo skarn-type Zn−Cu deposit in the Dachang ore field, but only in the No. 11 orebody of the Lamo deposit is developed such bismuthoan galena.

The authors study the process of the oxidation of galena in the liquid phase of flotation pulp of alkaline pH in terms of the formal kinetics. Kinetic schemes of the process are considered. The theoretical kinetic parameters of the overall oxidation reactions of galena are defined as a result of calculations. The most probable rate-determining steps of

Sphalerite (ZnS), galena (PbS) and pyrite (FeS2) are the important metallic sulphide minerals. These three sulphide minerals are often associated with each other, and large amounts of sphalerite and pyrite are lost in the galena flotation tailings.
