Introducing Hydrogen Bond Networks in the Self‐Assembly of Chitin Nanocrystals: Strong and Flexible Bioactive Films Containing Natural Polyphenols

Free‐standing, highly transparent, and flexible films are prepared from surface‐deacetylated chitin nanocrystals. The presence of natural polyphenols improves the tensile behavior, exerting a stiffening and toughening action, and hampers water absorption because of the crosslinking action of the phenolic and catecholic functionalities.
