Galerkin radiosity

Proceedings of the 20th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques, 1993
This paper presents an alternative radiosity formulation using piecewise smooth radiance functions that incorporates curved surfaces directly. Using the Galerkin integral equation technique as a mathematical foundation, surface radiance functions are approximated by polynomials.

Element‐free Galerkin methods

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1994
AbstractAn element‐free Galerkin method which is applicable to arbitrary shapes but requires only nodal data is applied to elasticity and heat conduction problems. In this method, moving least‐squares interpolants are used to construct the trial and test functions for the variational principle (weak form); the dependent variable and its gradient are ...

Galerkin and collocation‐Galerkin methods with superconvergence and optimal fluxes

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1981
AbstractFinite element methods are formulated and investigated for the effectiveness factor problem for heat and mass transfer with chemical reactions in catalyst pellet models. A Galerkin finite element method is compared with a previous C1 collocation method7.

Galerkin Residuals for Adaptive Symmetric-Galerkin Boundary Element Methods

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1999
This paper presents a simple a posteriori error estimator and an effective adaptive mesh refinement procedure for the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method. The ''hypersingular residuals,'' developed for error estimation in a standard collocation BEM, are extended to the symmetric Galerkin setting.

Stochastic Galerkin Matrices

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2010
We investigate the structural, spectral, and sparsity properties of Stochastic Galerkin matrices as they arise in the discretization of linear differential equations with random coefficient functions. These matrices are characterized as the Galerkin representation of polynomial multiplication operators.

DISCONTINUOUS GALERKIN FOR TURBULENT FLOWS

2011
The purpose of this chapter is to present all the relevant features of a high-order DG method developed over the years for the numerical solution of the RANS and k-w equations. The method has been implemented using orthogonal and hierarchical modal shape functions defined in the real space.

Discontinuous Galerkin Methods

2008
In this article, we describe some simple and commonly used discontinuous Galerkin methods for elliptic, Stokes and convection-diffusion problems. We illustrate these methods by numerical experiments.

Discontinuous Galerkin Methods

2012
In this final chapter we present the discontinuous Galerkin (dG) method. This method is based on finite element spaces that consist of discontinuous piecewise polynomials defined on a partition of the computational domain. Such methods are very flexible, for example, since they allow construction of more general methods and since they allow for simple ...
