Mesoscale dynamics of cyclone Leslie (2018): A diagnostic analysis of a rare Iberian landfall

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study presents a successful numerical simulation of cyclone Leslie (2018), using WRF‐ARW v4.5.1. Several mesoscale dynamics were identified indicative of the occurrence of sting jet and cold conveyor belt, which potentiated the record‐breaking winds in central Portugal.

HOWLish: a CNN for automated wolf howl detection

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Automated detection of wolf howls presents a great opportunity for large‐scale passive acoustic monitoring of wolf populations. Here we present HOWLish, a CNN trained for automated wolf howl detection, based on thousands of hours of soundscapes recorded in the wild.

Ab Initio Benchmarking on Unsupported and Coronene‐Supported Silver Atomic Clusters: Interplay Between Jahn–Teller Distortions and Fluxionality

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
The article presents a benchmark study using state‐of‐the‐art high‐level ab initio methodologies to predict infrared and Raman frequencies of subnanometric metal clusters. The importance of characterizing conical intersections in their potential energy landscapes is also highlighted, with the associated (Pseudo‐)Jahn–Teller distortions of cluster ...

Faceted 3D Supercrystals for Plasmonic Photocatalysis: Design, Reactivity, and Operando Studies

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
3D plasmonic supercrystals, created through the self‐assembly of metal nanoparticles, present a promising alternative to colloidal plasmonic nanoparticles for solar photocatalytic applications. They enhance chemical reactivity by generating multiple electromagnetic hot spots and facilitating nonthermalized charge carrier production.
