Galileo Perceptionist

open access: yesPerception, 2012
The present paper focuses on Galileo's conception of perception. I take as my starting point the interpretation of the Galilean text by Piccolino and Wade (2008, Perception37 1312–1340): Galileo's eye: a new vision of the senses in the work of Galileo Galilei.

Increase in Road Transport Safety - Way to Reduction of External Costs

open access: yesCommunications, 2005
Satellite navigation and prepared navigation system Galileo is the key technology that has to open the gate to new applications. It has to ensure Europe to not be too dependent (in term of economic and safety) on nonmember states of EU, to establish new ...

Galileo dust data from the jovian system: 2000 to 2003

open access: yes, 2009
The Galileo spacecraft was orbiting Jupiter between Dec 1995 and Sep 2003. The Galileo dust detector monitored the jovian dust environment between about 2 and 370 R_J (jovian radius R_J = 71492 km).

The Slow‐Rotating Nucleus of Comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy)

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The close approach of comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) allowed us to conduct an in‐depth study of the morphology of the inner coma. From the measurement of the dust emission structures expanding near the cometary nucleus in November–December 2013, we derived a slow rotation period of 47.8±1.2$$ 47.8\pm 1.2 $$ h.

GNSS scale determination using calibrated receiver and Galileo satellite antenna patterns

open access: yesJournal of Geodesy, 2020
The reference frame of a global terrestrial network is defined by the origin, the orientation and the scale. The origin of the ITRF2014 is defined by the ILRS long-term solution, the orientation by no-net rotation conditions w.r.t. the previous reference

On Galileo's self-portrait Mentioned by Thomas Salusbury [PDF]

open access: yespublised in Imagining Other Worlds Explorations in Astronomy and Culture Edited by Nicholas Campion & Chris Impey Sophia Centre Press University of Wales, Trinity Saint David 2018, pp 233-244, 2023
An intriguing reference to the existence of a self-portrait by Galileo Galilei is contained in the biography of the scientist by Thomas Salusbury dated ca. 1665, of which only one incomplete and inaccessible copy exists. Galileo grew up in a Renaissance atmosphere, acquiring an artistic touch. He was a musician, a writer and also a painter, as reported

Was Galileo Tortured? [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1878
THIS work treats with exhaustive thoroughness a question first raised about a century ago, as early, in fact, as advancing political liberty rendered its public discussion consistent with personal safety, and which has occupied scientific biographers pretty continuously since that time. The author's main object in reopening an issue, which the majority

A Smart Camera With Integrated Deep Learning Processing for Disease Detection in Open Field Crops of Grape, Apple, and Carrot

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Downy mildew (Plasmopara), apple scab (Venturia inaequalis), and Alternaria leaf blight are endemic diseases that affect crops worldwide. The diseases can cause severe losses in grapes, apples and carrots when not detected and treated in an early stage.

Geometry of motion: some elements of its historical development

open access: yesArtefactos, 2019
In this paper we return to Marshall Clagett’s view about the existence of an ancient Greek geometry of motion. It can be read in two ways. As a basic presentation of ancient Greek geometry of motion, followed by some aspects of its further development in
