Galvanic Skin Response

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1965
THE DIFFERENTIAL diagnosis of organic from psychogenic pain had long confounded pediatricians and psychiatrists alike. The sympathetic components of anxiety may blanch the viscera and be described as pain, and an unnecessary laparotomy is sometimes the result.

Skin Resistance and Galvanic Skin Response

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1962
The convenience of the galvanic skin response (GSR) and basal skin resistance (R) as indicators of autonomic activity has led to their widespread application in psychological and pharmacological investigations since the late 19th century, but the many fundamental controversies to be found in the literature testify to the questionable reliability of ...

GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF DEAFNESS

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1947
PRESENT clinical methods used in the differential diagnosis of organic from psychogenic deafness have proved adequate in the majority of cases. However, equivocal and unreliable responses are met with, particularly in psychotic or retarded patients or those with a "compensation fixation." Methods of testing suspect cases of deafness are included in ...

Inhibition of galvanic skin response by the splanchnic afferent

Experientia, 1970

NONSPECIFIC GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE AND RESPIRATION

Psychological Reports, 1961
The nonspecific galvanic skin response ( G S R ) , i.e., a change in skin resistance unrelated to any known stimuli, has been attributed (Birch, 1963; Cohen, et al., 1960; Lacey 6: Lacey, 1958) to level of arousal mediated primarily by the reticular system. Though it is well known char changes in respiration ( R ) are relared to changes in heart rare (

PROBLEMS IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE ENDOSOMATIC GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE

Psychophysiology, 1964
ABSTRACTAn analog computer model of the endosomatic galvanic skin response has been constructed from a theoretical interpretation of end organ function and has been used to study some of the parameters of a response consisting of two opposing components.

Study of the Galvanic Skin Response in Cystic Fibrosis

Archives of Dermatology, 1963
Introduction In recent years standardization experiments with the galvanic skin response (GSR) have shown a correlation with drug stimulation or suppression of sweat glands. 1-5 When sweat-stimulating drugs were used, the skin resistance was lowered and the GSR level rose.

An apparatus for the measurement of galvanic skin response

Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1967
An apparatus is described which enables changes in resistance that are a very small fraction of the total (ΔR/R < 0.01) to be measured and recorded automatically. Both a.c. and d.c. measurements can be made under constant current conditions. Low voltage battery operation makes the apparatus portable and safe for operation by unskilled personnel.

An Electronic Circuit for the Measurement of the Galvanic Skin Response

The American Journal of Psychology, 1955
Apparatus for the measurement of the GSR may be divided into two main groups, depending on whether alternating current (Ac) or direct current (DC) is applied to S. AC offers two major advantages over DC. (1) It eliminates polarization, permitting the use of dry silver electrodes; and (2) it makes practical the use of electronic amplifiers which ...

EFFECT OF ACCOMMODATIVE STIMULATION ON GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE

American journal of optometry and archives of American Academy of Optometry, 1973
ABSTRACT GSR latency, mean amplitude, and quiescent or post reading time of seven male college students during and after reading paragraphs of 20/50 acuity level or 1.5 mm letters at five levels of accommodative stimulation. −2.00 D to +2.00 D. were recorded by the Beckman Dynograph with miniature skin electrodes.
