Arousal Effects on Pupil Size, Heart Rate, and Skin Conductance in an Emotional Face Task

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Arousal level changes constantly and it has a profound influence on performance during everyday activities. Fluctuations in arousal are regulated by the autonomic nervous system, which is mainly controlled by the balanced activity of the parasympathetic ...

The Neuroscience of Religious and Spiritual Practices: A Systematic Review of Neurotheological Evidence

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Systematic synthesis of 105 neuroimaging and neurophysiological studies demonstrates that religious and spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer, chanting, worship, and mystical experiences, produce practice‐specific neuroplastic changes in brain networks governing attention, self‐referential processing, emotion regulation, connectivity ...

Design Software for Helical Origami Wearable Devices Fitting Body Shapes Utilizing Parametric Design

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, Volume 5, Issue 7, July 2026.
This work presents a parametric design approach for self‐folding paper wearable devices. Using an inverse design algorithm, helical structures are automatically generated to fit specific body dimensions. Conductive copper tape is integrated to demonstrate a disposable galvanic skin response sensor without straps.

The Meaning of Pain in the Clinical Management of Patients With Disorders of Consciousness: Is It a Neglected Issue?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Pain, Volume 30, Issue 6, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Pain is a critical yet frequently underestimated component in the care of patients with acquired brain injury (ABI) and disorders of consciousness (DoC). Because these individuals often lack the ability to communicate verbally or purposefully, clinicians face substantial challenges in recognizing and managing pain, despite its ...

Pharmacologically Modulating the Noradrenergic Arousal System to Reduce Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease: Study Protocol of the International AnTi‐FREEZE Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 2, July 2026.
The AnTi‐FREEZE study follows a three‐visit protocol consisting of a baseline visit and two randomized crossover visits with atomoxetine or placebo. Assessments in dopaminergic OFF‐ and ON‐states examine the effect of atomoxetine on freezing of gait severity and the role of noradrenaline in the pathophysiology of freezing of gait.
