Combined Gravimetric, Electrochemical, and Computational Research on Benzothiophene Derivatives as Effective Corrosion Inhibitors for Mild Steel

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Four benzothiophenes, thianaphthene (BT‐1), 3‐bromothianaphthene (BT‐2), benzo[b]thiophene‐2‐carboxaldehyde (BT‐3), and benzo[b]thiophene‐2‐carbonitrile (BT‐4), were tested as mild steel corrosion inhibitors in 1‐M HCl. The compounds have the similar benzothiophene core but differ in the substituents bound to the ring.

Departing from standard practices: Strategic application of value engineering in the anatomy laboratory to enhance formaldehyde extraction using high‐impact, low‐cost, and low‐maintenance solutions

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 241-253, March 2025.
Abstract This study describes the process of developing a high‐impact, low‐cost, and low‐maintenance air ventilation system for anatomy facilities. It employed the strategic application of Value Engineering (VE), assuring that the air ventilation system meets contemporary threshold limit values (TLVs) for formaldehyde in the working zone of dissection ...

Corrosion Behaviour of Steels in Nigerian Food Processing Environments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2011
The corrosion of mild steel (uncoated), galvanized steel and stainless steel (304L) have been studied using the weight loss method over a period of 98 days with measurements made at 14 days’ interval in ground melon (locally called egusi), cassava pulp ...

An experimental and finite element study of the low-cycle fatigue failure of a galvanised steel lighting column [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper presents the results of a low-cycle fatigue test on a lighting column. The wind induced vibration phenomena responsible for low cycle fatigue in such structures is discussed and the failure mechanism is examined.

Experimental study on burning rate and flame geometry in construction tunnel fires under high geothermal conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract As tunnel construction advances in lengths and depths, the construction of tunnels in high geothermal environments has become increasingly common, raising significant fire risks. In this study, a 1:20 scale model tunnel test platform was constructed to investigate the effects of a high geothermal environment on fire behavior in tunnels during ...

The effect of the presence of silicone films on the corrosion resistance of Zn and ZnFe coated steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Chromatation pre-treatments have been widely used to improve galvanized steel corrosion resistance. However, due to the high toxicity of chromate ions, chromatation pre-treatments tend to be banned and, in last years, alternative coating systems are ...
