Description of Ellipsomyxa prima n. sp. in the gallbladder of Gambusia yucatana (Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliidae) from freshwater springs in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Celestún Lagoon is located on the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in southern Mexico. The peripheral margins of the lagoon are exposed to a constant influx of water from freshwater springs, where a wide diversity of freshwater fishes occurs ...

Trophic Ecology of Poecilia velifera (Regan, 1914) and Gambusia yucatana (Regan, 1914) in an Anchialine Environment in Cozumel Island, Mexico

open access: yesWater (Switzerland)
“El Aerolito” is the most biodiverse cenote cave globally, home to Poecilia velifera and Gambusia yucatana. However, their trophic niches and interactions remain undescribed. A total of 53 P. velifera and 38 G. yucatana were analyzed for stable isotopes, along with water samples for chlorophyll, silicates, and physical–chemical parameters.

VILLAHERMOSA TAB.

open access: yesKuxulkab', 2014

Expression of estrogenic response genes to different concentration of 17ß-estradiol in male mosquitofish (Gambusia yucatana)

open access: yes, 2018
The estrogenic effects of endocrine disrupting compounds in fish are not reversible and can reduce populations. Sensitive methods such as Q-PCR, Western blot, etc., have been used to determine changes in gene expression and this predict the effects before they become irreversible.

Contrasting genetic structure in two codistributed freshwater fish species of highly seasonal systems Estructura genética contrastante en dos especies codistribuidas de peces de agua dulce que habitan sistemas marcadamente estacionales

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2009
Given the seasonal nature of ecosystems such as permanent sinkholes ('cenotes') and temporary wetlands, their fish fauna experience yearly local extinction and colonization processes, with strong fluctuations in population size.
