Imaging and Spectral Fitting of Bright Gamma-Ray Sources with the COSI Balloon Payload

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The Compton Spectrometer and Imager balloon payload (COSI-Balloon) is a wide field-of-view Compton gamma-ray telescope that operates in the 0.2–5 MeV bandpass.

Gravitational microlensing of gamma-ray blazars

open access: yes, 2002
We present a detailed study of the effects of gravitational microlensing on compact and distant $\gamma$-ray blazars. These objects have $\gamma$-ray emitting regions which are small enough as to be affected by microlensing effects produced by stars ...

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

A Study on the Line of Sight to Galaxies Detected at Gamma-Ray Energies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The large-scale universal structure comprises strands of dark matter and galaxies with large underdense volumes known as voids. We measure the fraction of the line of sight that intersects voids for active galactic nuclei (AGN) detected by Fermi Large ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Impacts of Voids, Line-of-sight Interactions, and Local Emission Environment on the Detectability of Gamma-Ray Active Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Cosmic voids may have novel effects on the propagation of high-energy photons. We consider the fraction of the line of sight that intersect voids (termed “voidiness”).

Unidentified EGRET sources in the Galaxy

open access: yes, 2003
Identifying gamma-ray sources in the Galaxy is hampered by their poor localization, source confusion, and the large variety of potential emitters. Neutron stars and their environment offer various ways to power gamma-ray sources: pulsed emission from the

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Classification of a New X-Ray Catalog of Likely Counterparts to 4FGL-DR4 Unassociated Gamma-Ray Sources Using a Neural Network

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Our survey of the fourth Fermi Large Area Telescope catalog (4FGL) unassociated gamma-ray source regions using the X-Ray Telescope (XRT) and Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) on board the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (Swift) provides new XRT and ...
