Invariance Violation Extends the Cosmic Ray Horizon ? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We postulate in the present paper that the energy-momentum relation is modified for very high energy particles to violate Lorentz invariance and the speed of photon is changed from the light velocity c.

Influence of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties at Elevated Temperatures of Nonweldable Ni‐Based Alloy Printed by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The fused filament‐fabricated MAR‐M247 alloy without hot isostatic pressing shows the lowest porosity of 4%. Heat treatment at 1220 °C produces coarse precipitates and carbides. Specimens heat‐treated at 1220 °C exhibit higher tensile strength (683 MPa) and elongation (10%) at room temperature.

High-energy astroparticle physics

open access: yes, 2009
In these three lectures I discuss the present status of high-energy astroparticle physics including Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECR), high-energy gamma rays, and neutrinos. The first lecture is devoted to ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. After a brief

Prospects of detecting gamma-ray emission from galaxy clusters : Cosmic rays and dark matter annihilations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We study the possibility for detecting gamma-ray emission from galaxy clusters. We consider (1) leptophilic models of dark matter (DM) annihilation that include a Sommerfeld enhancement (SFE), (2) ...

On the Deformation Behavior of Metastable CrMnNi Steels Processed by Directed Energy Deposition in Different Temperature Regimes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In the present study, metastable CrMnNi steels with varying chemical compositions and a concomitantly altered stacking fault energy are processed via directed energy deposition and afterwards tested via tensile tests at different temperatures. The present study shows the influence of the manufacturing process on the elemental deformation mechanisms for

Gamma radiation exposure of accompanying persons due to Lu-177 patients

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) are cancers usually observed and arisen in the stomach, intestine, pancreas and breathing system. Recently, radionuclide therapy applications with Lu-177 peptide compound are rapidly growing; especially effective clinical ...

Science Case for a Wide Field-of-View Very-High-Energy Gamma-ray Observatory in the Southern Hemisphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We outline the science motivation for SGSO, the Southern Gamma-Ray Survey Observatory. SGSO will be a next-generation wide field-of-view gamma-ray survey instrument, sensitive to gamma-rays in the energy range from 100 GeV to hundreds of TeV. Its science

Impact of Hot Isostatic Pressing on Microstructure Evolution and Creep Performance of Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam Processed CM247LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) temperature on the microstructure and creep performance of powder bed fusion–laser beam processed CM247LC superalloy is investigated. Grain growth and γ’ precipitate evolution are characterized following HIP at varying temperatures.

Laser Metal Deposited Ti4822 Hollow Pipe: Experimental and Computational Modelling Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser metal deposition (LMD) of a crack‐free built Ti4822 alloys is challenging. This article reports outstanding characteristics of a hollow pipe that is built with LMD technology when a predicted, nontransformation substrate temperature of 800 °C is used.

The protective action of osmolytes on the deleterious effects of gamma rays and atmospheric pressure plasma on protein conformational changes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Both gamma rays and atmospheric pressure plasma are known to have anticancer properties. While their mechanism actions are still not clear, in some contexts they work in similar manner, while in other contexts they work differently.
