Gamma-Ray Bursts [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2012
Stellar Explosions Stars that are born with masses greater than eight times that of the Sun end their lives in luminous explosions known as supernovae. Over the past decade, access to improved sky surveys has revealed rare types of supernovae that are much more luminous than any of those that were known before.

Gamma-ray bursts [PDF]

open access: yesReports on Progress in Physics, 2006
Gamma-ray bursts are the most luminous explosions in the Universe, and their origin and mechanism are the focus of intense research and debate. More than three decades after their discovery, and after pioneering breakthroughs from space and ground experiments, their study is entering a new phase with the recently launched Swift satellite. The interplay

Implications of Gamma-Ray Transparency Constraints in Blazars: Minimum Distances and Gamma-Ray Collimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We develop a general expression for the gamma-gamma absorption coefficient for gamma-rays propagating in an arbitrary direction at an arbitrary point in space above an X-ray emitting accretion disk.

Study on Induced Current of Iron Plate Irradiated by Pulsed Gamma Rays

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
To obtain the transient current response law of the metal component irradiated by pulsed gamma rays, the pulsed gamma ray irradiation experiment of the iron plate was carried out on “Qiangguang-I” accelerator.

ON GAMMA-RAY BURSTS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Eleventh Marcel Grossmann Meeting, 2008
(Shortened) We show by example how the uncoding of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) offers unprecedented possibilities to foster new knowledge in fundamental physics and in astrophysics. After recalling some of the classic work on vacuum polarization in uniform electric fields by Klein, Sauter, Heisenberg, Euler and Schwinger, we summarize some of the efforts ...

Gamma-ray polarimetry [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2003
An astrophysics application of a low noise Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector (DSSD) is described. A Semiconductor Multiple-Compton Telescope (SMCT) is being developed to explore the gamma-ray universe in the 0.1-20 MeV energy band. Excellent energy resolution and polarization sensitivity are key features of the SMCT.

Ascertaining gamma ray dosage sensitivity of in vitro cultures in banana cv. Ney Poovan (Musa AB)

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2021
In a vegetatively propagated and parthenocarpic crop like banana, the mutation breeding method offers considerable scope to create genetic variability for crop improvement.

The H.E.S.S. View of the Central 200 Parsecs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The inner few hundred parsecs of our galaxy provide a laboratory for the study of the production and propagation of energetic particles. Very-high-energy gamma-rays provide an effective probe of these processes and, especially when combined with data ...
