Gamma Rays from Compton Scattering in the Jets of Microquasars: Application to LS 5039

open access: yes, 2005
Recent HESS observations show that microquasars in high-mass systems are sources of VHE gamma-rays. A leptonic jet model for microquasar gamma-ray emission is developed.

Observation of thundercloud-related gamma rays and neutrons in Tibet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
During the 2010 rainy season in Yangbajing (4300 m above sea level) in Tibet, China, a long-duration count enhancement associated with thunderclouds was detected by a solar-neutron telescope and neutron monitors installed at the Yangbajing Comic Ray ...

GAMMA-RAY OBSERVATIONS OF GAMMA-RAY BINARIES

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics: Conference Series, 2014
Gamma-ray binaries are binary systems that emit most of their radiative output above 1 MeV. Following the detection of five such systems in the past decade, they have been clearly established as a population of galactic GeV and TeV sources. In this review I discuss their recent gamma-ray observational results from Cherenkov telescopes and the Fermi ...

Detection of Pulsed Gamma Rays Above 100 GeV from the Crab Pulsar [PDF]

open access: yesScience, 2011
This detection constrains the mechanism and emission region of gamma-ray radiation in the pulsar’s magnetosphere. We report the detection of pulsed gamma rays from the Crab pulsar at energies above 100 giga–electron volts (GeV) with the Very Energetic ...

Fermi-LAT Observations of the Diffuse Gamma-Ray Emission: Implications for Cosmic Rays and the Interstellar Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The γ-ray sky > 100 MeV is dominated by the diffuse emissions from interactions of cosmic rays with the interstellar gas and radiation fields of the Milky Way.

CONSTRAINTS ON COSMIC RAYS, MAGNETIC FIELDS, AND DARK MATTER FROM GAMMA-RAY OBSERVATIONS OF THE COMA CLUSTER OF GALAXIES WITH VERITAS AND FERMI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Observations of radio halos and relics in galaxy clusters indicate efficient electron acceleration. Protons should likewise be accelerated and, on account of weak energy losses, can accumulate, suggesting that clusters may also be sources of very high ...

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

High Energy Gamma Rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The Very High Energy Gamma Ray Astronomy (VHE) is a rapidly evolving branch of modern astronomy, which covers the range from about 50 GeV to several tens of TeV from the ground.

Time structure of gamma-ray signals generated in line-of-sight interactions of cosmic rays from distant blazars

open access: yes, 2012
Blazars are expected to produce both gamma rays and cosmic rays. Therefore, observed high-energy gamma rays from distant blazars may contain a significant contribution from secondary gamma rays produced along the line of sight by the interactions of ...
