The afterglows of gamma-ray bursts [PDF]
Gamma-ray burst astronomy has undergone a revolution in the last three years, spurred by the discovery of fading long-wavelength counterparts. We now know that at least the long duration GRBs lie at cosmological distances with estimated electromagnetic energy release of 10**51 -- 10**53 erg, making these the brightest explosions in the Universe.

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

Radial distribution of the diffuse gamma-ray emissivity in the Galactic disk [PDF]
The Fermi-LAT data accumulated over 7 years of {\gamma}-ray observations, together with the high resolution gas (CO & HI) and the dust opacity maps, are used to study the emissivity of {\gamma}-rays induced by interactions of cosmic rays (CRs) with the ...

This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.

The extragalactic gamma-ray sky: A view on the most powerful phenomena in the universe
The gamma-ray sky provides a look into the most energetic and violent processes of the universe. In the last years, gamma-ray satellites are scanning the sky for understanding the physics governing the gamma-ray emission.

Detection of an X-ray Pulsation for the Gamma-ray Pulsar Centered in CTA 1
We report the detection of X-ray pulsations with a period of ~315.87 ms from the 2009 XMM-Newton observation for the radio-quiet gamma-ray pulsar, LAT PSR J0007+7303, centered in the supernova remnant CTA 1.

This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...

Naked Forward Shock Seen in the TeV Afterglow Data of GRB 221009A
We explore the implications of the light curve of the early TeV gamma-ray afterglow of GRB 221009A reported by the LHAASO Collaboration. We show that the reported offset of the reference time, T _* , allows the determination of the activation time of the

Real-time Likelihood Methods for Improved γ-Ray Transient Detection and Localization
We present a maximum-likelihood (ML) algorithm that is fast enough to detect γ -ray transients in real time on low-performance processors often used for space applications.
