Swift Pointing and Gravitational-Wave Bursts from Gamma-Ray Burst Events

open access: yes, 2003
The currently accepted model for gamma-ray burst phenomena involves the violent formation of a rapidly rotating solar-mass black hole. Gravitational waves should be associated with the black-hole formation, and their detection would permit this model to ...

Shape Memory Polymer‐Based Hook‐and‐Loop Fastener for Robust Bonding and on‐Demand Easy Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D shape memory polymer‐based hook‐and‐loop fastener, fabricated using projection microstereolithography and molding, offers tunable bonding strength through temperature control. When heated from 25 to 70 °C, the fastener softens and deforms easily, reducing bonding strength by 20‐fold for on‐demand easy separation.

Contribution of the Gamma-ray Loud Radio Galaxies Core Emissions to the Cosmic MeV and GeV Gamma-Ray Background Radiation

open access: yes, 2011
The Fermi gamma-ray satellite has recently detected gamma-ray emissions from radio galaxy cores. From these samples, we first examine the correlation between the luminosities at 5 GHz, L_{5GHz}, and at 0.1-10 GeV, L_{gamma}, of these gamma-ray loud radio

Effect of Thermomechanical Processing on the Impact Deformation of Additively Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Previous studies on additive manufacturing primarily focus on the mechanical properties of as‐printed components. In the present work, researchers explore the potential of employing novel thermomechanical postprocessing techniques to improve the microstructure after printing.

Temporal and Spectral Analysis of the Unique and Second-brightest Gamma-Ray Burst GRB 230307A: Insights from GECAM and Fermi/GBM Observations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this study, we present the pulse profile of the unique and the second-brightest gamma-ray burst GRB 230307A, and analyze its temporal behavior using a joint GECAM–Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor (GBM) time-resolved spectral analysis.

Influence of a Standard Heat Treatment on the Microstructure and Properties of Inconel X‐750 Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ni‐base superalloys produced using additive manufacturing (AM) have a different response to heat treatments when compared to their conventional counterparts. Due to such unpredictability, various alloys with industrial interest are currently overlooked in most prior AM research.

Compton degradation of gamma-ray line emission from radioactive isotopes in the classical nova V2491 Cygni

open access: yes, 2010
To account for the non-thermal emission from the classical nova V2491 Cygni, we perform a series of numerical calculations of radiative transfer of \gamma-ray photons from the radioactive isotope $^{22}$Na in the matter ejected from a white dwarf.

THE EXTRAGALACTIC BACKGROUND LIGHT, THE HUBBLE CONSTANT, AND ANOMALIES: CONCLUSIONS FROM 20 YEARS OF TeV GAMMA-RAY OBSERVATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ground-based observatories have been collecting 0.2–20 TeV gamma-rays from blazars for about twenty years. These gamma-rays can experience absorption along the line of sight due to interactions with the extragalactic background light (EBL). In this paper,

Influence of Testing Temperature on the Mechanical Performance of Brazed Conventionally and Additively Manufactured 316L Stainless Steel Joints

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports for the first time the mechanical properties of brazed joints featuring Additively manufactured parts, such parts will likely need to be joined or combined with other components, and brazing offers a way of doing this for complex shapes without distortion. A new shear test methodology developed for such joints is also described.

Exploring the bulk of the BL Lac object population:1. parsec-scale radio structures

open access: yes, 2013
Context. The advent of Fermi is changing our understanding on the radio and gamma-ray emission in Active Galactic Nuclei. Contrary to pre-Fermi ideas, BL Lac objects are found to be the most abundant emitters in the gamma-ray band.
