Underwater gamma-ray spectrometry

2008
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses underwater gamma-ray (γ) spectrometry. As underwater γ-ray spectrometry is recently reviewed, the chapter presents several results obtained by the International Atomic Energy Agency's Marine Environmental Laboratory (IAEA-MEL).

Gamma-Ray Spectrometry

1975
Gamma-ray spectrometry by the method of pulse-height analysis makes possible the direct determination of individual radionuclides in a gamma-emitting sample. Such determinations are possible because the method provides a basis for the identification of specific nuclear transitions, and these, in turn, are characteristic of specific radionuclides.

Uncertainties in gamma-ray spectrometry

Metrologia, 2015
High resolution gamma-ray spectrometry is a well-established metrological technique that can be applied to a large number of photon-emitting radionuclides, activity levels and sample shapes and compositions. Three kinds of quantitative information can be derived using this technique: detection efficiency calibration, radionuclide activity and photon ...

Time resolved gamma-ray spectrometry

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2007
A new approach is proposed for the measurement of the time-dependent processes in gamma-ray spectrometry. During data acquisition, the energy and the detection time of each event are recorded and the data are later analyzed off-line. This separation of acquisition and data handling extends the possibilities of the analysis.

AN IN SITU GAMMA-RAY SPECTROMETRY INTERCOMPARISON

Health Physics, 2003
This paper provides the results of an in situ gamma-ray spectrometry intercomparison that was held from 18-21 October 1999, in Grand Junction, CO. This intercomparison was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Measurements Laboratory and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Radiation and Indoor Air.

Comparison of gamma-ray coincidence and low-background gamma-ray singles spectrometry

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2012
Aerosol samples have been studied under different background conditions using gamma-ray coincidence and low-background gamma-ray singles spectrometric techniques with High-Purity Germanium detectors. Conventional low-background gamma-ray singles counting is a competitive technique when compared to the gamma-gamma coincidence approach in elevated ...

Radon gamma-ray spectrometry with YAP:Ce scintillator

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2002
The detection properties of a YAP:Ce scintillator (YAlO3:Ce crystal) optically coupled to a Hamamatsu H5784 photomultiplier with standard bialkali photocathode have been analyzed. In particular, the application to radon and radon-daughters gamma-ray spectrometry was investigated.

Linssi: Database for gamma-ray spectrometry

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2008
Linssi is a Structured Query Language (SQL) database for HPGe gamma-ray spectrometry. It covers the whole production chain from sample preparation to final analysis results. Static or mobile sampling and measurement and multiple sample types are supported. In addition, each sample can be split or combined any number of times.

Techniques of field gamma-ray spectrometry

Mineralogical Magazine, 1981
AbstractField gamma-ray spectrometry is a rapid and effective quantitative method of mapping variations of radioelements within igneous intrusions. A field procedure for radioelement mapping demonstrates the value of the method to studies of late-stage magmatic processes during the emplacement of granite intrusions and the determination of their ...
