Amphoteric Cu‐Doping Leading to High Thermoelectric Performance in p‐Type Bismuth Antimony Telluride

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that Cu plays two opposite roles in p‐type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 depending on the processing route. Under thermodynamic‐equilibrium bulk‐synthesis, Cu mainly occupies cation sites, increases hole concentration, preserves mobility, and slightly reduces lattice heat transport. The best‐performing composition among the investigated series reaches

Nitride MXenes Beyond Carbides: Bridging the Gap Between Computational Prediction and Experimental Realization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nitride MXenes remain constrained by a persistent gap between computational prediction and experimental realization. This Review identifies the thermodynamic, kinetic, and chemical barriers limiting their synthesis, critically evaluates emerging fabrication routes, and proposes a multidimensional computational‐experimental framework to accelerate the ...

High natural gamma radiation in two Brazilian areas

open access: yes, 2013
Primeval radionuclides have survived in detectable amounts since the time of nucleosynthesis and contribute to the natural terrestrial radioactivity.

Bioinspired Hydrogels with Broadly Programmable Mechanics for Soft‐Tissue Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sea cucumber‐inspired gelatin hydrogels are formed by directional freezing and mechanically programmed through subsequent ionic treatment. Multiscale characterization and modeling link ion‐regulated chain interactions to directional load transfer within the aligned hierarchical architecture.

Radiation sensitivity of Aspergillus niger of low-energy X-rays and Caesium-137 gamma rays

open access: yes
The radiation sensitivities of Aspergillus niger in several energy X-rays and gamma rays were investigated. Experiment and simulation were conducted to evaluate the X-ray energy spectra and depth dose distributions.

Lewis Acid Site Engineering in MOF‐Derived Aluminum Oxide/Carbon Composites for Dechlorination of Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Oil

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled carbonization of an Al‐MOF partially decomposes its linkers, exposing coordinatively unsaturated Al centers within an oxide/carbon composite. The resulting Lewis acid sites, rather than surface area, govern organochlorine capture: the composite removes chemically diverse organochlorines from waste plastic pyrolysis oil, outperforms a ...

Particle‐Level ZrO2 Atomic Layer Deposition Enables Fast‐Cycling and Long‐Life Graphite Cathodes for Dual‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spatial location of atomic layer deposition (ALD)‐derived ZrO2 coatings is demonstrated to be a critical design parameter for stabilizing graphite cathodes in DIBs. Direct particle‐level ALD (PALD) screening of representative metal oxides identified ZrO2 as the coating that provides the most favorable balance of high‐rate capability and interfacial ...

Detection prospects for Axion-Like Particles (ALP) Searches with the Southern Wide-Field Gamma-ray Observatory (SWGO) [PDF]

open access: yes
openIt is known that the detection of VHE gamma rays emitted by extragalactic sources such as AGNs is very challenging due to steeply falling fluxes of photon spectra and the absorption of photons in extragalactic background light (EBL) which pervade the

Diffuse Extragalactic Gamma Rays and Gamma Ray Bursts

open access: yes, 1998
If gamma ray bursts produce a total energy of 10^54 ergs and this energy is concentrated on the high energy tail of the spectrum E> 1 TeV, then they may account for the observed diffuse extragalactic gamma ray emission for energies > 100 MeV. Such an energy could be released if the GRB's are produced by the burning of the total mass of a neutron ...
