On the Influence of Antioxidants and Recycled MgO–C Source Material on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon‐Bonded Magnesia Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Superlong gamma-ray bursts [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy Letters, 2005
Before the BATSE/GRO launch GRBs seem to be a uniform phenomenon with duration up to about 100 seconds. The BATSE has detected many events longer than 100 s and a few longer than 500s. We performed the off-line scan of the 1024 ms continuous BATSE records and revealed several non-triggered episodes of the BATSE GRB triggers which confidently belong to ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Generation of polarization-tunable hybrid cylindrical vector $\gamma$ rays from rotating electron beams

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
Cylindrical vector (CV) $\gamma$ rays can introduce spatially structured polarization as a new degree of freedom for fundamental research and practical applications. However, their generation and control remain largely unexplored.

Gamma radiation exposure of accompanying persons due to Lu-177 patients

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) are cancers usually observed and arisen in the stomach, intestine, pancreas and breathing system. Recently, radionuclide therapy applications with Lu-177 peptide compound are rapidly growing; especially effective clinical ...

ENHANCING THE TOLERANCE OF FENNEL PLANT TO SALINITY STRESS USING GAMMA RAYS AND LASER AND EVALUATING THE MUTATIONS BY ISSR AND RAPD MARKERS [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Journal of Flowers and Ornamental Plants
Salinity causes a decrease in plant growth and productivity, and the problem of salinity increases with the worsening impact of climate change. This work aimed to study the effect of the physical mutants, laser and gamma rays, on the vegetative growth ...

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

Time structure of gamma-ray signals generated in line-of-sight interactions of cosmic rays from distant blazars

open access: yes, 2012
Blazars are expected to produce both gamma rays and cosmic rays. Therefore, observed high-energy gamma rays from distant blazars may contain a significant contribution from secondary gamma rays produced along the line of sight by the interactions of ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Revised production cross-section of gamma-rays in p-p collisions with LHC data for the study of TeV gamma-ray astronomy

open access: yes, 2012
We present the production cross-section of gamma-rays based on data of p-p collisions at LHC, revising the previous semi-empirical formula mainly for 1) the inelastic cross-section in p-p collisions, $\sigma_{pp}(E_0)$, and 2) the inclusive gamma-ray ...
