Peripheral regeneration of Aβ low‐threshold mechanoreceptors is limited despite activation of regenerative transcriptional pathways

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The regeneration of Aβ low‐threshold mechanoreceptors (Aβ‐LTMRs), sensory neurons responsible for discriminative touch, has not previously been explored. Here, we took advantage of the selective expression of Calb1 in Aβ‐LTMRs to generate two genetic mouse models for studying their regenerative response after nerve injury.

Consensus Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Complex Deficiency

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Primary pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency (PDCD) comprises a group of monogenic disorders caused by pathogenic variants in genes encoding subunits of, or regulatory components affecting, the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. The clinical phenotype spans a broad continuum, ranging from early onset congenital lactic acidosis to infantile ...

Fine‐needle aspirates and computed tomography assisting in the diagnosis of cholesteatoma in a dog with recurrent otitis

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, November 2026.
Summary A 10‐year‐old, male, neutered Bichon‐Frisé, with a history of recurrent otitis externa, was presented to a referral centre with sudden‐onset head tilt. Neurological examination was consistent with right peripheral vestibular syndrome and facial neuropathy.

Human brain matters: Navigating the neuropathology of COVID‐19

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 6, November 2026.
Severe COVID‐19 is associated with vascular dysregulation and chronic neuroinflammation, leading to axonal injury and neurodegeneration. In long COVID or PASC, persistent alterations in neuroimaging and biofluid biomarkers reflect ongoing neuronal damage and neuroinflammation, contributing to long‐term neurological symptoms including fatigue, cognitive

Engineered Nanotopography to Modulate Growth and Signaling of Neuronal Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 79, 1 October 2026.
This study examines the interaction between neurons and nanoscale topographies on engineered substrates. Neurons cultured on nanowires, nanopillars and nanoneedles exhibit enhanced neurite outgrowth, form more organized neuronal circuits, and display improved synaptic connectivity, compared to flat substrates.

Proteomic Signatures of Noise‐Induced Hearing Loss in the Mouse Cochlea

open access: yesCell Biology International, Volume 50, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Hearing loss affects over 1.5 billion people worldwide and has substantial social, educational, and economic consequences. Although genetic studies have identified numerous hearing‐loss‐associated genes, the molecular changes accompanying noise‐induced hearing loss (NIHL) remain incompletely understood.

Hyperglycemia‐Induced Microglial CTSS Disrupts Blood‐Retinal Barrier Integrity via PAR2‐Dependent Downregulation of Endothelial MFSD2A

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 10, October 2026.
Hyperglycemia induces retinal microglial activation and CTSS upregulation, disrupting microglia‐endothelial crosstalk via PAR2‐dependent MFSD2A suppression. Abnormal activation of microglia amplifies retinal inflammatory cascade, enhances transcytosis, compromises BRB integrity, and accelerates DR progression.

Gene therapy for hereditary deafness: Progress, challenges and translational implications from OTOF to GJB2

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
Current Management & Limitations: Traditional auditory devices lack genetic curative potential and yield variable, non‐physiological hearing outcomes. OTOF gene therapy has shown promising clinical outcomes with dual‐AAV therapy. GJB2 gene therapy remains an emerging approach with significant translational challenges. Advances in vector design and cell‐
