Radioiodinated ganglioside GM1: a potential tool for the investigation of ganglioside function
Pharmacological Research Communications, 1985Ganglioside GM1 was labeled with 125I either directly or after conjugation to tyramine. Direct iodination of the sphingosine chain resulted in a compound which dehalogenated rapidly both in vitro and in vivo. The binding of the 125I[GM1-tyramine] conjugate to neuronal membranes in vitro was similar to that reported for 3H-GM1.

Biochemistry, 1992The ability of Fuc-GM1 ganglioside to mimic the receptor function of GM1 for cholera toxin (CT) has been investigated. For this purpose, rat glioma C6 cultured cells were enriched with Fuc-GM1 and the responsiveness to CT was compared with that of cells enriched with GM1 ganglioside.

Acute motor neuropathy with antibodies to GM1 ganglioside
Journal of Neurology, 1991We describe a 52-year-old man who had an acute-onset purely motor neuropathy fulfilling the diagnostic criteria for the Guillain-Barré syndrome, in whom virtually complete spontaneous recovery occurred by 1 year, and in whom high titres of polyclonal serum antibody to GM1, GD1b, asialo-GM1 and lacto-N-tetraose were detected.

Chorea-acanthocytosis with polyclonal antibodies to ganglioside GM1
Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1997A patient with chorea-acanthocytosis presenting with axonal neuropathy showed an elevation in IgM polyclonal antibodies to the GM1 ganglioside, which were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and complement-mediated liposome immune lysis assay (LILA). This is the first demonstration of such antibodies in chorea-acanthocytosis.
