Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Interference Between Traffic Flows: The Gap Acceptance Theory
2020This chapter presents the gap acceptance theory, in that it is of great applicative interest in studying road intersections. Therefore, some models for estimating the critical gap and the follow-up time for at-grade unsignalized intersections and roundabouts are described.

Modification of a Gap Acceptance Theory Model of Roundabouts’ Capacities
CICTP 2016, 2016The roundabout’s capacity is usually analyzed by the gap acceptance theory model. There are obvious differences between the value calculated by the model and the observed values. This study modifies the model with a parameter reflecting the change of the critical headway analyzed by multiple linear regressions, and validates the model with the data ...

Development of Managed-Lane Access Guidelines Based on Gap Acceptance Theory
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2011One strategy for improving freeway performance is implementation of managed lanes (MLs). Vehicles access an ML located in the freeway median by weaving across the general purpose lanes (GPLs) and entering the ML from the leftmost lane of the GPLs. Such intense lane-changing maneuvers cause traffic turbulence, which induces special operational problems ...

A Signal Detection Theory Analysis of a Driving Decision Task: Spatial Gap Acceptance
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1988Applications of signal detection theory (SDT) in the study of road-users behavior were tested in both real and laboratory settings. The field study used a gap-acceptance task with 3 levels of experimentally produced frustration. The laboratory simulation used a parking task, again with 3 levels of frustration.

Intense lane-changing maneuvers at weaving sections often cause traffic turbulence on expressways, especially in the presence of a concurrent medium exclusive bus lane (XBL) and general purpose lanes. Such intense lane-changing activity usually affects the operation and reduces the capacity of weaving sections in relation to their equivalent basic ...

Gap-acceptance at roundabout entries is a safety-critical driver behavior with direct implications for intersection capacity analysis, microscopic traffic simulation, and the development of autonomous driving systems. Existing models either treat the decision as a static threshold comparison, limiting their ability to capture behavioral heterogeneity ...
