Atom garbage collection

Proceedings of the 2005 ACM SIGPLAN workshop on Erlang, 2005
Atoms are a central data type in Erlang, yet there is currently no method for memory management of atoms in the most popular implementations. For long-lived systems, this leads to obscure bugs or defensive programming. In this paper, we discuss the relevant issues for atom garbage collection and propose some principles.

Static Garbage Collection

2019
We present a method that allows to bound the sizes of intermediate trees in a composition of macro tree transducers. Macro tree transducers are a powerful model of tree translation which, for instance, includes all attribute grammars (seen as tree-to-tree translators).

Garbage collection

Proceedings of the 8th Workshop on Implementation, Compilation, Optimization of Object-Oriented Languages, Programs and Systems, 2013
It's been more than 50 years since John McCarthy invented garbage collection. The last 15 years or so have been the most exciting as garbage collection became mainstream and is now considered the norm for all/most modern programming languages. However, despite its overall success, programmers still face challenges when relying on garbage collection for

GCTrees

ACM Transactions on Storage, 2015
File-system snapshots have been a key component of enterprise storage management since their inception. Creating and managing them efficiently, while maintaining flexibility and low overhead, has been a constant struggle. Although the current state-of-the-art mechanism—hierarchical reference counting—performs reasonably well for traditional small-file ...

Garbage collection in Aurora: An overview

2005
Aurora is an OR-parallel Prolog system whose implementation is based on the WAM, an efficient sequential implementation model. This paper discusses several issues related to parallel Garbage Collection (GC) in Aurora. The GC itself is a generalization of GC techniques used for sequential Prolog.
