Fine Particle Migration in a Gas Hydrate Sand: Single- and Two-Phase Fluid Using a Device for Observation at the Pore Scale

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The production of natural gas hydrates will change the cementation strength, porosity, and effective stress in the stratum, which may lead to engineering and geological disasters.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations of Gas-liquid Two-phase Flow Characteristics through a Vertical to Horizontal Right Angled Elbow

open access: yesASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development, 2017
Having a clear understanding on the phase distribution of gas-liquid two-phase flow through elbow bends is vital in mixing and separation system designs. This paper presents the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and experimental observations

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Numerical Simulation of Gas-Liquid Flow in a Bubble Column by Intermittent Aeration in Newtonian Liquid/Non-Newtonian Liquid

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2018
The dynamic behaviors of gas-liquid two-phase flow were simulated in a lab-scale intermittent bubble column by Euler-Euler two-fluid model coupled with the PBM (population balance model) using two different liquid phases, i.e., Newtonian fluid (water ...

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

Numerical Modeling of pipes conveying gas-liquid two-phase flow [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
Results of studies of the oscillations of pipelines conveying a two-phase slug flow are presented in the paper. A viscoelastic model of the theory of beams and the Winkler base model are used in the study of pipeline oscillations with a gas-containing ...

Influence of Rotation Speed and Gas Content on the Transient Gas–Liquid Two-Phase Flow of an Electric Submersible Pump

open access: yesMachines, 2023
In order to study the internal flow characteristics of the electric submersible pump (ESP) when the gas–liquid two-phase flow is conveyed by the variable frequency variable speed operation and the change of the imported gas content, the impeller of the ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Two-Phase Flow Pattern Identification by Embedding Double Attention Mechanisms into a Convolutional Neural Network

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
There are inevitable multiphase flow problems in the process of subsea oil-gas acquisition and transportation, of which the two-phase flow involving gas and liquid is given much attention.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral
