Measuring the Gas-Solids Distribution in Fluidized Beds -- A Review

International Journal of Chemical Reactor Engineering, 2008
In gas-solid fluidized beds, the distribution of the particles typically varies both in time and space. Since the gas-solids distribution and its variation have a strong influence on the performance of a fluidized bed for a given process, it is very important to accurately measure the gas-solids or voidage distribution.

Supersonic attrition nozzles in gas–solid fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2010
Gas-solid fluidized beds are used in both catalytic and non-catalytic processes, and some of the industrial applications are fluid catalytic cracking, polyethylene production, drying and classification, coating, and granulation. In some applications, the size distribution of the bed particles must be controlled in order to maintain good fluidization ...

GAS–SOLID FLOW MODELLING IN A CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED

International Journal of Modelling and Simulation, 2008
A numerical parametric study was performed to understand the influence of various riser exit geometries on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid flow in the riser of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB). An Eulerian continuum formulation was applied to both phases.

Bubble flow in pressurized gas/solid fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1987
AbstractThis contribution presents the measurements of bubble behaviour in presence of A, B and D powders in a semi‐industrial scale pressurized fluidized bed. Local measurements were taken at static pressures of 0.2, 1.0 and 2.5 MPa, using capacitance probes.

Flow structure of the solids in gas–solid fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering Science, 2004
Existence of clusters in dense fluidized beds was investigated by analyzing the time-position data of a tracer obtained in several radioactive particle tracking experiments. It was found that in the case of sand particles, more gas passes through the bed as bubbles with increasing the superficial gas velocity and in the case of FCC powder, flow of the ...

Wall‐to‐bed heat transfer in gas–solid bubbling fluidized beds

AIChE Journal, 2005
AbstractThe wall‐to‐bed heat transfer in gas–solid fluidized beds is mainly determined by phenomena prevailing in a “thermal boundary layer ” with a thickness in the order of magnitude of the size of a single particle. In this thermal boundary layer the temperature gradients are very steep and the local porosity profile near the wall strongly ...

Fluidization behavior of polymeric particles in gas—solid fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering Science, 1992
A systematic study is conducted which illustrates the effects of the average size and size distribution of polymeric particles on the fluidization quality of gas—solid fluidized beds. The fluidization quality is characterized by the bubble flow rate, and evaluated based on a bed collapse technique. Polymeric particles used include polyethylene (PE) and

Fluidization characteristics of lithium-titanate in gas-solid fluidized bed

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2011
Abstract Experiments were conducted to investigate the hydrodynamic behaviour of lithium titanate (Li 2 TiO 3 ) in gas-solid fluidized bed. The objective of the study was to study the fluidization properties of Li 2 TiO 3 particles. These studies will be useful to find the applicability of fluidization to increase the effective thermal conductivity ...

Bed nonhomogeneity in turbulent gas‐solid fluidization

AIChE Journal, 2003
AbstractBed dynamic behavior in a gas‐solid fluidization system is measured in real time using ECT based on the NNMOIRT recently developed. The ECT results reveal the time‐averaged and transient characteristics of the bubble/void phase and the emulsion phase, which is of value to the verification of the 3‐D computation codes with real physical systems.

The bubble behavior in the gas‐solids fluidized bed

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1983
AbstractThe bubbling frequency in a gas‐solids fluidized bed and its stochastic variation along the axial direction of the bed were determined by means of the capacitance method. The stochastic model proposed, more specifically a pure‐death process, appears to be capable of describing the resultant data well.
