This study investigates a novel cleaning technique based on the use of atomic oxygen (AO) generated in atmospheric pressure plasma, with the focus on the systematic investigation of the impact of AO on sensitive organic substrates during the cleaning action, to explore the applicability and limitations of the technique.

Amphiphilic copolymer coatings comprising sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) and isobornyl methacrylate (IBMA) are reported, synthesized via SI‐ATRP, that resist biological fouling and sediment accumulation. The copolymer coating with an SBMA:IBMA feed molar ratio of 1:1 is optimal for reducing diatom adhesion and sediment adsorption.
