AbstractGases have been long known to have essential physiological functions in the CNS such as respiration or regulation of vascular tone. Since gases have been classically considered to freely diffuse, research in gas biology has so far focused on mechanisms of gas synthesis and gas reactivity, rather than gas diffusion and transport.

Gas diffusion and electrolyte penetration in porous gas diffusion electrodes
Electrochimica Acta, 1977Abstract Gas diffusion and electrolyte penetration in wetproofed gas diffusion electrodes were studied using layers of PTFE-bonded carbon. Minor variations in fabrication and testing procedures resulted in very large variations in catalyst layer wetting characteristics and permeability for gases.

Amperometric gas‐diffusion/enzyme electrode
Electroanalysis, 1995AbstractAn amperometric enzyme gas‐diffusion electrode has been developed which combines a porous, air breathing gas‐diffusion electrode with an enzyme [glucose oxidase (GOD)] immobilized with Nation into its porous catalytic layer. The catalytic layer contains pyrolyzed Co‐ tetramethoxyphenylporphyrine (CoTMPP), which is very active towards the ...

A Gas-Hemoglobin Diffusion Photometer
IRE Transactions on Medical Electronics, 1960A double-beam photometer is described which employs a single photocell and motor-driven shutter synchronized with alternately energized screens in a gated amplifier. The equipment is used for indicating and recording monochromatic light absorption changes by a thin layer of hemoglobin-containing media exposed to diffusion of various gases.

Gas transfer from air diffusers
Water Research, 2006The bubble and surface volumetric mass transfer coefficients for oxygen, k(L)a(b) and k(L)a(s), are separately determined for 179 aeration tests, with diffuser depths ranging from 2.25 to 32 m, using the DeMoyer et al. 12003. Impact of bubble and free surface oxygen transfer on diffused aeration systems.

Diffusion Imaging with Hyperpolarized3He Gas
Journal of Magnetic Resonance, 1997We used MRI of hyperpolarized 3He to demonstrate some novel aspects of gas diffusion. Two different techniques were used. First, a slice was burned into a one-dimensional image by inverting the spins in the slice and diffusion was studied by measuring the magnetization as it filled the depleted slice.

In general, the diffusion velocities of gas mixtures in porous media are related to each other in a complex manner dependent upon the mole fraction of each gas, the molar fluxes of each gas, and the binary diffusion coefficient of each gas pair. Soil-type effects on gas diffusivity in sieved and repacked soils appear to be minor and can probably be ...

Microfabricated gas-diffusion electrodes
Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry, 1992Abstract Gas-diffusion electrodes with uniform openings were prepared by electrodeposition of silver on microfabricated metal mesh. The porous metallic structures were non-wetting and allowed operating pressures up to 2 atm (0.2 MPa). From the polarization data for oxygen reduction on these electrodes, the decrease in contact angle with pressure ...

The physical properties of the diffuse intergalactic gas is one of the more tantalising problems of modern cosmology. It is certain that there is diffuse intergalactic gas in rich clusters of galaxies as is indicated by the observation of intense Xray bremsstrahlung at a temperature of about 108 K from clusters such as the Coma and Perseus clusters ...

Predicting gas-liquid diffusivities
Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 1972Diffusion in liquids has been studied for many years (14, 16). Available expressions for calculating diffusion coefficients in liquids, however, only partially have been successful. There is no one equation which predicts diffusivities for all systems involving a liquid solvent.
