The effect of wind and currents on gas exchange in an estuarine system [PDF]

open access: yes
The objectives were to develop a non-volatile tracer to use in gas exchange experiments in laterally unconfined systems and to study applications of deliberate tracers in limnology and oceanography.

Rotational correlation and dynamic heterogeneity in a kinetically constrained lattice gas

open access: yes, 2005
We study dynamical heterogeneity and glassy dynamics in a kinetically constrained lattice gas model which has both translational and rotational degrees of freedom.

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

The Usefulness of Submaximal Exercise Gas Exchange in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: A Case Series

open access: yesClinical Medicine Insights: Circulatory, Respiratory and Pulmonary Medicine, 2010
Introduction Submaximal exercise gas exchange may be a useful tool to track responses to therapy in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients. Methods Three patients diagnosed with idiopathic PAH, on differing therapies, were included.

Van der Waals forces in density functional theory: perturbational long-range electron interaction corrections

open access: yes, 2005
Long-range exchange and correlation effects, responsible for the failure of currently used approximate density functionals in describing van der Waals forces, are taken into account explicitly after a separation of the electron-electron interaction in ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Flow and Turbulence driven Water Surface Roughness and Gas Exchange Velocity in Streams

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
Gas exchange velocity in streams and rivers controls fluxes of atmospheric gases across the air-water interface and is commonly related to the turbulence at the water side. Similarly, river flow hydraulics influences the water surface roughness, which is

Disadvantages of Automated Respiratory Gas Exchange Analyzers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
The use of automated gas exchange analysis systems in exercise studies is common throughout the industrialized world and are frequently used in sports medicine laboratories for the measurement of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), as an integrative ...

Dynamics of atom-surface interactions [PDF]

open access: yes
Scattering techniques currently being used to examine the dynamics and energetics of gas-surface energy exchange processes and gas-surface reaction mechanisms are reviewed. In particular, recent inelastic scattering measurements are highlighted which are
