Types of Gas Hydrates in Marine Environments and Their Thermodynamic Characteristics

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2006
The hydrates in marine environment can be grouped into two categories, diffusion gas hydrates and vent gas hydrates. The diffusion gas hydrates occur widely in an area where bottom simulation reflector (BSR) was recorded in seismic profiles, and is a ...

Stability, Adsorption and Diffusion of CH4, CO2 and H2 in Clathrate Hydrates

open access: yes, 2010
We present a study of the adsorption and diffusion of CH4, CO2 and H2 molecules in clathrate hydrates using ab initio van der Waals density functional formalism [Dion et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 246401 (2004)].

On the volatile enrichments and composition of Jupiter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Using the clathrate hydrates trapping theory, we discuss the enrichments in volatiles in the atmosphere of Jupiter measured by the \textit{Galileo} probe in the framework of new extended core-accretion planet formation models including migration and disk

Photocatalytic Versus Stoichiometric Hydrogen Generation Using Mesoporous Silicon Catalysts: The Complex Role of Sacrificial Reagents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of accounting for stoichiometric hydrogen produced when utilizing Si photocatalysts. The stoichiometric contribution is sacrificial reagent dependent and decreases with increasing sterics around the catalyst surface.

The Controlling Factors and Prediction of Deep-Water Mass Transport Deposits in the Pliocene Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Large-scaled submarine slides or mass transport deposits (MTDs) widely occurred in the Pliocene Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea. The good seismic mapping and distinctive topography, as well as the along-striking variation in sediment supply, make it ...

Determination of Priority Study Areas for Coupling CO2 Storage and CH4 Gas Hydrates Recovery in the Portuguese Offshore Area

open access: yesEnergies, 2015
Gas hydrates in sub-seabed sediments is an unexploited source of energy with estimated reserves larger than those of conventional oil. One of the methods for recovering methane from gas hydrates involves injection of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), causing the ...

Gas Hydrate Gas Hydrate Equilibrium Measurement and Observation of Gas Hydrate Dissociation with/without a KHI

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2016
AbstractThis paper presents new gas hydrate equilibrium data's for C2H6 (structure I) and CH4 + C3H8 (structure II) with and without the presence of sodium chloride. Macroscopic observation of gas hydrate dissociation under the presence of kinetic hydrate inhibitor (KHI) is also presented and compared with cells that have no inhibitor.

Biotechnological aspects of sulfate reduction with methane as electron donor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Biological sulfate reduction can be used for the removal and recovery of oxidized sulfur compounds and metals from waste streams. However, the costs of conventional electron donors, like hydrogen and ethanol, limit the application possibilities.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of
