Gas Separation & Purification, 1989
Abstract The criterion of assessment used, after satisfying the required duty safely, is that of minimum overall operating cost. Thus, both energy and capital costs are taken into account. The processes considered are cryogenic distillation, absorption, adsorption and membranes.

Gas streams can be purified from the suspended particles by mean of units with no moving parts and then no variables that can be manipulated: abatement chambers and cyclones. For a given separation efficiency the latter unit results to be much more compact than the former one and the accurate sizing procedure is discussed through a dedicated case study.
