A Statistical Fuel Swelling and Fission Gas Release Model
Nuclear Applications and Technology, 1970AbstractA computer simulation of a fuel region has been developed based on movement of fission gas bubbles in solids under a thermal gradient. Within this region, fission gas events are followed via a Monte Carlo technique. Individual bubbles are followed through their time history from nucleation to release from the fuel, with interactions at ...

Estimating Swelling in Oil-Based Mud Due to Gas Kick Dissolution
Volume 11: Petroleum Technology, 2020Abstract Gas kick is an ever-present hazard whose importance is magnified for offshore drilling situations. Modeling gas kick is a complex problem that requires an understanding of the relevant fluid dynamics as well as the solubility of natural gas in oil-based muds (OBM).

Fission gas release and swelling in UO2 doped with Cr2O3
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1980Abstract UO 2 doped with 0.5 wt% Cr 2 O 3 has been irradiated at 1500°C to three differing burn-ups to a maximum of 0.45% FIMA. The gas release and swelling have been compared with a reference fuel and found to be similar. To explain the results it is necessary to assume both an enhanced gas diffusion rate and a reduced grain boundary surface ...

A theory of the coalescence of gas bubbles under conditions of swelling
Journal of Nuclear Energy. Parts A/B. Reactor Science and Technology, 1965Abstract In the later stages of decomposition of a supersaturated solid solution, an important role is played by the dissolution of grains of new phase dispersed throughout the solution (coalescence). In the present work the kinetics of this process is investigated for swelling, where the grains of new phase are bubbles containing inert gas.

New Approach for Simultaneous Measurement of Gas Absorption and Swelling
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2011For sorption measurements many different methods are applicable, but nearly all of them require a correction of the raw experimental data by a factor including the sample’s volume.

In recent studies, NMR imaging has been used to investigate the swelling of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) tablets and to determine polymer concentration distributions in the swollen matrix. The total amount of polymer in the system was computed from these distributions and was up to 35% greater than the known weight of HPMC in the tablet.

Investigations on swelling and fission gas behaviour in uranium dioxide
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1978Abstract UO2 irradiated at temperatures between 1000 and 2100 K was investigated with respect to fission gas behaviour and swelling. The amount of fission gas was measured in three steps as released fission gas, fission gas retained in bubbles and pores, and fission gas in the fuel matrix. The retained fission gas reaches concentrations up to 1.6 ×

Diffusion controlled swelling of reservoir oil by direct contact with injection gas
Chemical Engineering Science, 1991The diffusion-controlled swelling of reservoir oil, when the oil is indirectly contacted by an injection gas such as CO by diffusion through a water barrier film, is presented. The solutions are based on the method of the variable powered profile to describe the distribution of CO in the oil and water phases.

Extrudate swell of polyvinylchloride melts containing gas bubbles
1988The behaviour of foaming molten PVC flowing out of capillaries was studied. Compositions of granulated PVC plasticate with 0 to 2% blowing agent (Genitron EPA) were extruded on a Plastograph Brabender through dies 3 mm in diameter and various lengths at temperatures of 160, 170 and 180°C.
