Toward Rational Design of Aqueous Battery Membranes Beyond the Selectivity‐Conductivity Trade‐Off

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review examines sulfonated membranes for redox flow batteries. It focuses on proton transport mechanism, membrane design, performance limits, optimization strategies, and the pathway from molecular design to membrane manufacturing. ABSTRACT Electrochemical energy‐storage systems increasingly require membranes that can simultaneously deliver fast ...

Controlling Epitaxial Zn Growth via Guided Laser Patterning toward High‐Performance 6Ah Aqueous Zn||I2 Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A scalable laser‐assisted surface patterning method regulates zinc ion flux and promotes lateral epitaxial growth for stable aqueous batteries. Periodic micro‐holes effectively minimize interfacial resistance and reconstruct the zinc texture to favor the compact (002) basal plane. This structured anode suppresses both dendrite propagation and parasitic

Dual‐Functional Membranes With Interfacial MXene/PFSA Nanoarchitectures for Low Hydrogen Permeation in Water Electrolysis and Reduced Vanadium Ion Crossover in Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A PFSA/MXene composite membrane is developed for both PEMWE and VRFB applications. MXene incorporation simultaneously enhances proton conductivity and suppresses hydrogen/vanadium crossover. The interaction between MXene functional groups and PFSA's –SO3H reduces the proton diffusion barrier via hydrogen‐bonding networks, while the disordered ...

Product‐Reshaped Gas‐Phase Hydrodynamics Govern CO2 Electrolysis in Gas Diffusion Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In gas‐fed CO2${\rm CO}_2$ electrolysers, the gas phase is part of the electrochemical response. As gaseous products form, they change gas composition and flow, which in turn affects CO2${\rm CO}_2$ delivery and CO intermediate availability. This feedback changes the reaction environment needed for multicarbon formation, becoming unavoidable as ...

Evaluation of gas sorption-induced internal swelling in coal

Fuel, 2015
Abstract Gas sorption plays an important role in permeability evolution and gas flow in coal. Many efforts have been made to evaluate the effect of gas sorption on permeability. For example, the total gas sorption matrix swelling is divided in to two pars, one acts on cleat (internal swelling) and the other contributes to coal block deformation ...

A theoretical model for gas adsorption-induced coal swelling

International Journal of Coal Geology, 2007
Abstract Swelling and shrinkage (volumetric change) of coal during adsorption and desorption of gas is a well-known phenomenon. For coalbed methane recovery and carbon sequestration in deep, unminable coal beds, adsorption-induced coal volumetric change may cause significant reservoir permeability change.

Gas-induced swelling in coal

Fuel, 1986
Abstract Dilatometric studies were carried out on three coal samples in various gaseous environments. The carbon contents of the three samples were 65.8%, 78.3% and 83.8% d.a.f., respectively. The sample with the lowest carbon content has shown the maximum length increase (0.5%) on exposure to a CO 2 atmosphere. This corresponds to a volume increase

Swelling and Gas Release in ZnO

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1980
Swelling and gas release in a model ceramic system, ZnO, were studied under known internal and external pressures, oxygen partial pressures, and temperatures. When gas was not released, the instantaneous swelling strain rate was: εα( DF exp‐Q/RT) where DF

Measurement of Swelling for PP/Gas Mixtures

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Foaming of thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO) and thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) is gaining interest because of the lightweight and high performance to weight ratio of foamed automotive parts. Since foaming will occur mainly in the PP matrix in these PP-based automotive materials, understanding of the thermophysical ...

Kinetics of Gas-Bubble Swelling in Silver

Journal of Applied Physics, 1971
A nondestructive method has been used to monitor continuously the volume changes in thin-walled tubes of oxygen-bearing silver which were heated in an argon ambient containing a few percent hydrogen. A large direct current was used to heat the samples while their ends were water cooled.
