Oxidation of cellulose in pressurized carbon dioxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This work presents first results upon oxidation of type II cellulose by nitrogen dioxide dissolved in carbon dioxide at high pressure. This reaction leads to oxidized cellulose, a natural-based bioresorbable fabric used for biomedical applications.

Gas diffusion through soil crumbs: the effects of wetting and swelling

open access: yesJournal of Soil Science, 1983
Summary Gas diffusion coefficients for hydrogen through air in packings of 1–2 mm crumbs from a clay loam (both under grass and under arable) and from a sandy loam were measured over a range of water contents as the soils were wetted.

Effect of non-uniform swelling on coal multiphysics during gas injection: The triangle approach

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
In current dual porosity/permeability models, there exists a fundamental assumption that the adsorption-induced swelling is distributed uniformly within the representative elementary volume (REV), irrespective of its internal structures and transient ...

New Models for UO2 Fuel Structure Evolution under Irradiation in Fast Reactors

open access: yes, 2011
On the base of analysis of experimental observations and critical assessment of existing models for oxide fuel structure evolution under operation conditions of fast reactors, new models for fuel restructuring and coring are proposed.

Nonaqueous Fluoride/Chloride Anion-Promoted Delamination of Layered Zeolite Precursors: Synthesis and Characterization of UCB-2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The delamination of layered zeolite precursor PREFER is demonstrated under mild nonaqueous conditions using a mixture of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, tetrabutylammonium fluoride, and tetrabutylammonium chloride in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as ...

Surfactant films in lyotropic lamellar (and related) phases: Fluctuations and interactions

open access: yes, 2017
The analogy between soap films thinning under border capillary suction and lamellar stacks of surfactant bilayers dehydrated by osmotic stress is explored, in particular in the highly dehydrated limit where the soap film becomes a Newton black film.

Impact of positive end expiratory pressure on cerebral hemodynamic in paediatric patients with post-traumatic brain swelling treated by surgical decompression.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
IntroductionThe objective of our present study is to evaluate the impact of different PEEP levels on cerebral hemodynamic, gas exchanges and respiratory system mechanics in paediatric patients with post-traumatic brain swelling treated with decompressive

Insights into gas generation and self-absorption in lithium-ion batteries after fast charge aging: Mechanism and implications

open access: yesApplications in Energy and Combustion Science
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are susceptible to accelerated degradation, swelling, and safety concerns under fast-charging conditions, largely due to gas generation and related side reactions.
