Review of Passive Flow Control Methods for Compressor Linear Cascades

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This paper reviews the evolution of flow control methods for bladed linear cascades, focusing on passive techniques like riblets, grooves, vortex generators (VGs), and blade slots, which have proven effective in reducing drag, suppressing flow separation,

The Importance of Hot Corrosion and Its Effective Prevention for Enhanced Efficiency of Gas Turbines

open access: yes, 2015
Advanced gas turbine engines essentially need novel materials to exhibit forever-greater efficiency by increasing their operating temperatures. Higher operating temperatures lead to high temperature corrosion of the components and thereby reduce their ...

An integrated scheduling and control scheme with two economic layers for demand side management of chemical processes

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Integrated dynamic scheduling (IDS) and economic nonlinear model predictive control (eNMPC) enable economic operation of chemical plants subject to volatile energy prices. Herein, we combine the two concepts into an integrated two‐layer scheme. Therein, IDS performs “long‐horizon” scheduling on a day‐ahead (DA) market and eNMPC “short‐horizon”

Gas turbines for polygeneration? A thermodynamic investigation of a fuel rich gas turbine cycle

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermodynamics, 2011
Gas turbines as used nowadays are working far in the fuel lean regime, which is most reasonable for mobile applications, since the formation of pollutants and soot are avoided while the temperatures remain low enough to avoid damage of the turbine. However, from a thermodynamic point of view the exergy utilization is far from optimum at such conditions.

A novel methodology to determine the safe operating regime for an offshore wind‐integrated electrolysis system

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The offshore wind‐integrated hydrogen production system is a novel approach to producing green energy carriers and chemicals. Even with the significant environmental benefits of this approach, there are major questions and concerns regarding its safety.

Toward Autonomous Self‐Healing in Soft Robotics: A Review and Perspective for Future Research

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this article, five different phases (damage detection, cleaning, damage closure, material healing, and healing assessment) are investigated to have an autonomous self‐healing at the system level with the focus on soft robotics. It delves into the importance of each phase, why and where they matter, and reviews relevant technologies that enable ...

On Accurate and Reliable Anomaly Detection for Gas Turbine Combustors: A Deep Learning Approach [PDF]

open access: yesPHM 2015 Conference, 2019
Monitoring gas turbine combustors health, in particular, early detecting abnormal behaviors and incipient faults, is critical in ensuring gas turbines operating efficiently and in preventing costly unplanned maintenance. One popular means of detecting combustor abnormalities is through continuously monitoring exhaust gas temperature profiles.
