Estimating National and Foreign Trade Elasticities Using Generalized Transport Costs

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 471-496, March 2025.
ABSTRACT We introduce the definition of two distinct trade elasticities corresponding to imports from regions located in the same country (national elasticities) and foreign regions located in other countries (foreign elasticities). We resort to a three‐tier nested CES utility structure to derive the corresponding demand gravity equations.

The Impact of Digital Technologies on Skills‐to‐Job Mismatches

open access: yesNew Technology, Work and Employment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A pervasive discourse calls for worker upskilling amid ongoing digital transformation. This study introduces a skills‐to‐job mismatch perspective into research on the digital transformation of work by conceptualising technological adoption as a process that reshapes the relationship between workers’ skill endowments and evolving job ...

Virtues of Regulatory Criminology

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This special issue demonstrates that regulatory studies and criminology both have virtue. Regulatory criminology has neglected virtues that exceed the sum of its parts. The editors did a splendid job of pointing out in their introduction that criminology created a number of theoretical traditions that have had moments of passing value and ...

Public Understanding of Water‐Sensitive Urban Design and Implications for Land Use Planning: Insights From Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, EarlyView.
Conventional urban drainage systems are frequently found to contribute to degradation of urban watercourses. The implementation of Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and associated nature‐based infrastructure is considered one potential solution to mitigate stormwater‐induced degradation.

Not Necessarily Farm‐Wives: The Working Women of Rural Aotearoa/New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 3, December 2026.
ABSTRACT There's a perception farm‐resident women are farmers or farmwives (e.g., cooks, record‐keepers, errand‐runners). Yet most farm‐resident women record a non‐farm occupation in their census returns. This article investigates this anomaly. It looks at the changing status of farm and other rural women, the diversity of non‐farming careers they ...

High‐Throughput Geocoding to Assess Short‐Term Air Pollution in Correlation With Mortality in a French Cancer Patient Cohort

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 8, Page 2054-2065, 15 October 2026.
Although chronic air pollution exposure is linked to lung cancer mortality, the short‐term effects of fluctuating air quality on overall cancer mortality remain uncertain. Here, the authors applied geomatics and machine‐learning models to retrospectively examine possible associations between 31‐day pollution exposure and mortality in a French cancer ...

From Idea to Implementation: Evaluating the Influence of Large Language Models in Software Development—An Opinion Paper

open access: yesApplied AI Letters, Volume 7, Issue 3, October 2026.
Professionals' insights on the use of large language models (LLMs) in software development. This abstract highlights how transformer‐based models enhance productivity, reduce coding time, and assist with tasks such as code generation, debugging, and documentation, while also emphasizing potential challenges including overdependence and ethical ...

Hybrid machine learning and genetic algorithm approach for catalyst and process optimization in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis toward sustainable fuel production

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 10, Page 5641-5673, October 2026.
Graphical representation of a data‐driven framework for Fischer‐Tropsch synthesis (FTS) modelling and optimization. Abstract This study presents a data‐driven approach for predicting the relationships between catalyst design, process conditions, and product selectivity in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS).
